I wasn't able to watch the game today. Saw highlights, but that's it. Can someone give me an objective rundown of the game? What did we do positively? What was bad? What issues can be improved/fixed? And what issues look like they could be consistent problems throughout the season?

TIA

defense was ugly early on, but played good enough for a typical Saints team to win. Not much of a pass rush, but Cam Jordan looked good most of the day. He's the only DL who's name was called.

DBs looked ok, some bad moments but overall held up in the middle of the game when the Saints were trying to take the lead.

but our WR couldnt get open, despite Brees having a good bit of time. Colston and Coleman had some ugly drops.

tons of short passes to our RBs and WRs. Ingram and Khiry looked really good. Snead needs to get more PT.

pass rush is going to be our biggest problem all year. That and our WRs are not very good.

Throwing the ball more than 8 yards downfield, hopefully.

Our passing game is almost entirely run through Ingram and Robinson now.

Defense was mediocrr. Anthony and kikihaha or whatever looked good. Kicker was good

It will be a long season

Oline looked good, not great, good though, cardinals blitzed a lot. Ingram and Khiry did good catching the ball. Kicker looks great. We ran way too many screens, red zone O has a lot to be desired. Our young defensive players played pretty decent except there was a lot of PI and defensive holding calls. I'm still pumped about Breaux and Swann. Hicks didn't do anything, John Jenkins looked good first half and then fizzled out. Basically a lot of penalties in secondary, and no red zone threat. Cardinals are definitely a good football team.

Payton coached scared. Didn't challenge the secondary all day, even when we had legitimate chances to score touchdowns and take the lead or tie the game in the 4th quarter.

As previously mentioned, the WRs freaking blow. But he pretty much waved the white flag too early IMO. Brees hit Snead deep for 66 yards and then I don't think he got a target for the rest of the day.

And then there was the punt at the 2 minute warning on 4th and 6 from the 7. He had more faith in the defense winning the game than the offense winning the game. That was the most telling thing about the game, and it was sobering.

In the second and third quarter the defense played good enough where a Saints offense from 2-3 years ago would have blown the Cardinals out by 2-3 TDs. The offense is the worse I've seen it under Payton. He called screens all game which is why our RBs were the leading WRs. Never really challenged Arizona over the middle or deep. It was basically the Falcons offense under Mike Smith. Bunch of check downs that never went anywhere and were very predictable. Oh and no running game whatsoever. Then Payton decided he was going to rely on his all world defense to get a stop and punted on 4th down with a minute and change left. Unfortunately Payton's all world defense was unable to get it done, giving up an effortless screen for a TD.

If we want to give Brees the finish to his career that he deserves, the following players should be kept: Ingram, the O-line, the rookie linebackers, Breaux and Swann. They are off-limits (oh, and I guess the kickers).

We need to package whoever we can from the rest of the team, and/or whatever draft picks we can, to get Brees a legit redzone WR target (a good one).

It's a shame, bordering on a crime: Arizona has a good defense, and Brees absolutely dissected them. The new O-line gave him the time he needed, and he's at a point to where he still has enough physical talent, and his knowledge on the field is incredible. But his WRs and TEs let him down; Colston is too old and drops the passes, Coleman is too raw and isn't presenting the target (and drops the ball).

With reliable receivers, we win this game.

i thought the D played alright actually.

had to settle for FG's too much on offense.

can't do that on the road in a tough enviroment

D was inconsistent but had bright spots considering the youth. If our offensive play calling didn't come from a chimpanzee we should have won.

yeah, I mean the D played better than I thought they would. Got a big turnover when Breaux recovered the fumble.

but then were unable to capitalize after a miss on a throw to Colston.

man, I love #12 but its truly frustrating the way he's opened the season the last few years.
