Indy and Chicago seem the most likely to me. I could see Houston finishing around 6-10 or 7-9 this year and possibly doing this as well.

But, we still have an onswership problem, and management. Loomis needs to gtfo

even still, you think the Colts or Bears are gonna take him on as the highest paid coach in the league? that's what you'd be asking them to do. no way am i giving the saints even a 7th rounder and taking his contract after the last 4 years.

He's still a good coach. It's just time for a change

Who would be a better coach for the Saints to get right now

Again, as I stated, they wouldn't be giving up any compensation.

Also, they could renegotiate his contract, or part of the deal would be that we pay a percentage of it. Even if its 2 million a year we are paying, that way more palatable than paying him 30+ million not to coach here.

It is time for everyone to move on.

It doesn't matter. Its time to move on.

And as I have said, I'm interested in a new GM/HC combo.

Like a Caserio/Patricia type hire.

what you're saying doesn't make any sense. why would Payton agree to this? if we're not getting any compensation, then he's still under contract with the saints. he's not going to go elsewhere for less money just because it's time for him to go. he'll make them fire him and get paid and then go be a FA and pick his spot.

He would make the exact same amount of money, if we agreed to pay the team a portion of his salary.

He might also agree if both sides just agree that its time to move on, but the Saints won't fire him because of the money issue.

but he'd still be forced to go to whatever team agreed to the deal.

what if only the jets, browns and jags agree to do it?

Presumably, he would be in on this process.

If we are talking theoreticals and Benson wanted to get CSP to quit he could hire Rita and put her above Loomis. Won't take long to see an exit at that point from either of them.

For those who think Payton has phoned it in due to his look on the sideline, I offer a different hypothesis...he knows his team sucks and he is doing what he can with what he has.

I am not an NFL coach, but I have coached several kids teams in various sports. I can tell you a coach knows early on when their team just sucks. But, you have to get them ready to play, knowing that you have little hope of winning.

That is the face I see on Sean Payton. My wife accused me of having the same face during my daughter's volleyball games...just numbly staring, knowing their ain't shite you can do because your team just doesn't have the talent.

well while I see your point, that doesn't apply here because on those teams you are stuck with whatever you have and that's it.

with payton he went out there and out of thousands of players AND COACHES he can have, he decided these are the ones that are better then all those other ones. so no, your idea cannot apply here like it does with "kids" sports

My fear is that Benson is getting too senile to initiate any action. Mickey and Payton have a cozy setup in which there is little fear of consequences from failure.

It is reminding me of Shanahan after Elway retired. EXCEPT our HOF QB is still here and the poor results have gone on longer than it did there.

CSP has been quoted as saying if Loomis goes I am not far behind. But yeah, Benson has slowed down and Loomis is way too comfortable.

I don't see CSP busting heads and making anymore changes this year so we are stuck with this team in it's current state both from coaches and players perspective.

2017 does not look great, both these games played are pretty much like the prior 3 years.

Yeah but they still have to pay the contract, which SP is clearly not worth at this time.

The problem is we don't have anyone in that building who cares about the on-field product.

Mr. Benson is no longer coherent, and Mrs. Benson could give a crap about football. The entire Benson empire is basically being run by Dennis Lauscha. I've met Dennis. Great guy, very smart. But he's a beancounter, and his sole concern is growing the value of ALL of the empire. The Saints (and Pels) continue to grow value at a high level. So, that's what matters. As long as the money comes in... that's all that matters.

Mickey doesn't appear to do anything for the Saints or Pels at this point. He surely ain't gonna fire SP. SP is making all the personnel decisions of note. He's making all the coaching decisions. And he's hamstrung with a bunch of crappy contracts, crappy drafting, and dead money (most of which is of his doing).
