Why would any team want to give up anything for Payton

Yeah a fresh start might be good but it keeps getting worse

He does still carry value. Not many active coaches can boast his 1 year initial turnaround, his continous top 5 offenses for yards, along with his SB ring. Joe Gibbs, Bill Parcells, Mike Ditka among many others received plenty of chances with their original teams and others to recapture the "magic."

Someone would offer something but a Gruden style return would appear way out of the question.

He's the 5 longest tenured HC in the league behind Belichick, Marvin Lewis, Tom Coughlin, and a couple of days behind Mike McCarthy. He's also one of 7 current coaches who have won a Super Bowl as a HC.

Miami would give up a pretty penny to get him after the season, and my guess is that they will try very hard to pry him away.

My sleeper destination for Payton is Dallas. Awkward tension between Garrett and Jerry Jones due to losing, Greg Hardy situation, and Dez Bryant's outbursts could be reason enough for Garrett to be fired if Payton is indeed available.

During his tenure, the Saints have basically been contenders except in the years that they have had one of the worst defenses in the history of football. He's a consistent 8-12 win coach otherwise.

Garrett is Jones puppet. Payton would want more control then what Jerry would give him.

I agree. I don't think CSP would want to work for Jones now. He pretty much runs everything besides the defense here. Thankfully he's getting some much needed help from Ireland in the front office now.

Taking that trainwreck of a franchise to a title would appeal to him for a lot of reasons. First, it's the Cowboys, and that means something to a lot of people. Second, I'm sure coming back and getting a shot with Romo (his original project) would appeal to him, if Romo is actually alive by next season. Third, how many other coaches have a ring with two teams? Finally, his mentor/idol Bill Parcells couldn't win there, and I'm sure there's a little ego involved with getting a chance to win where he couldn't win.

Cute. If by sleeper you mean that Jerry has wanted CSP back ever since the 2006 NFC championship game

Yeah sleeper probably isn't the best term for Dallas in this case, but you know what I mean. An actual sleeper would be the Giants should Tom Coughlin retire or something.

I'm kind of just stoking the fire of Payton to Dallas because people seem to be more focused on Miami and Indy as potential landing spots if he moves on.

There's a weird thing that happens on this board where people rant and rage about how bad a player or coach is, and then in the same breath say we ought to trade that shitty player/coach for two first rounders... it's weird.

CSP being available would have the media in a frenzy similar to the CLM docudrama.

And plenty of teams lined up cause like QB's there are not a lot of top quality one's around.

Because familiarity breeds contempt. No coach is perfect. Remember when fans wanted Brady benched after three or four games a few years ago? We are spoiled. This is a rebuild. We will be bad. Accept it for what it is and get some perspective.
