What's our plan at wide receiver?

With the trading of Stills and Graham, our receiving core is looking very lackluster. Granted Stills wasn't anything special, he had flashes of potential and I was looking forward to seeing how he progressed this season.

So that leaves us Cooks, Colston, and Toon with a couple guys who were UDFA's last year. Josh Hill also showed some good potential.

Do you think we look to sign a very dean receive? Crabtree, Cecil Shorts, or Stevie Johnson could be really solid with Brees throwing them passes. But it seems we aren't really looking at veteran receivers.

I can't see is going receiver again with a high pick. At first I thought it was clear as day, but now I see the saints focusing two picks on the D and one on the O-line with their first 3 selections.

Hopefully one of our practice guys steps up.

I want to sign Bowe, but I haven't heard any interest.

As much as I don't want to see it happen. Going after a true #1 receiver in the draft makes some sense. I look at a guy like Cooper that is so polished in his route running that he can step in and be a true difference maker on our offense. I hope we don't trade up but I can see it happening if the FO feels comfortable with Lelito stepping into the G spot.

Depending on how things fall, I definitely see us drafting a WR with one of our top 3 picks. Personally, I hope it's not at 13. I like Strong or one of those 2nd round guys...and then depend on someone to step up. That would be 4 guys and that's all we need. I don't see us swinging for the fences on WR

I think there are some WRs that we can take in the draft without reaching into the top ten. I don't think the Saints are going to trade up, then again they haven't exactly been predictable this offseason. I think the belief is that DB and CSP can make a good receiver out of just about anyone in this offense.

Our actual core of cooks and colston is fine.

You mean our whole receiving BODY as in LES CORPS?

Then yes, our receiving CORPS needs a guy from the draft which we will be doing.

Given our cap situation we can't really do anything outside of vet minimum deals until we do something with Evans (whose money is needed for draft picks and regular season roster stuff), change our stance on touching Brees, or do something with Jordan. Maybe cutting/trading Bush could be enough?

There isn't much more to be had and I don't see us adding any more offensive FAs unless it's at the minimum(so no guys like Crabtree).

We'll draft a guy and roll with what we got. It's really not as serious as people are making it out to be.

I can't believe we haven't given Crabtree a call yet. He would be fantastic in this offense.

We can't afford Crabtree or any other decent FA WR. There's a good chance that you could draft a WR that outperforms the FA's and he would be cheaper. That's our best option.

Barnwell and Mays brought this exact situation up on one of their recent podcasts. Barwell asked Mays if it would make more sense for Crabtree to sign a ~3 year, $12m deal with someone like Cleveland or a one year, $3m deal with the Saints, and both agreed that the Saints would make more sense. He could start for us and drastically increase his value for next offseason. He's still out there, so I'm guessing that he isn't blown away with any offers. I wouldn't be shocked if we could squeeze him in.

How much would Crabtree be asking for?

He hasn't been that great for a couple of seasons.

His rep as a "sorry receiver" should bring his price down.

Supposedly, this is a great WR draft. I would think picking one with our third pick (depending, of course, who's still on the board), maybe a cheap FA, and rolling with what we've got is what will happen.

He's a decent WR at best. I wouldn't give him the money. I actually wouldn't mind taking a chance on Cecil Shorts if the price is right...and by right, I mean cheap.
