I'm not advocation get drafting him--he's either a 3-4 end or a 4-3 DT that we don't need. But I really thought he was maybe LSU's best--or at least most valuable--defensive player in 2015. I expected him to dominate last year, but may not have had thensexy stats in Aranda's 3-5 scheme. But ai literally don't think I've seen his name 1 time in all the draft coverage or mocks. Where's he projected and what's the knock(s) on him?

Honestly forgot about him. Wasn't he at one time projected to go first round to Carolina?

Maybe undersized? I don't know.

He's not a 3 down player. When you have issues against the run as a DT you have some big issues. Unless he improves a lot and gets a lot bigger/stronger, he is simply nothing more than a situational interior pass rusher.

Yet he was LSU's 2nd highest ranked defender that day.

CB Tre’Davious White 88.0
DE Davon Godchaux 78.2
OLB Arden Key 74.0
DT Greg Gilmore 73.4
DT Travonte Valentine 73.3

White and Godchaux carry the defense, linebackers struggle

DE Davon Godchaux was one of the best interior pass rushers in the nation last season but we wanted to see more from him in the running game. That’s exactly what he showed as he dominated up front to get in on a team-high eight stops on only 36 snaps against the run. He consistently held his ground and shed blocks to make plays, but unfortunately the linebackers struggled mightily at the second level, leading to Wisconsin’s best gains on the ground. LBs Kendell Beckwith and Duke Riley were easily sealed out of too many plays while Beckwith added two missed tackles.

He had a really bad bench press showing at the combine. I forget the exact number but I remember it being close to my own numbers and I weigh 100+ pounds less than him.

Godchaux isn't the right size for his position so he'll go cheap compared to his production. Too small for DT, not long and lean enough for a true DE. I think he and Lewis Neal will be amazing value for whoever drafts them. They both performed very well against stiff competition, but don't match position/size measurements. I'm much more of a fan of on field production than prototypical size.
