A few weeks/month ago, he was a popular pick for the Saints on most of the mock drafts and now Rankins seems to have taken his place. Not only that, but current mocks have him late 1st/early 2nd.

I don't keep up w/ this as much as most on here, so why the big drop? TIA.

I can't speak for actual scouts, but when I watched a bunch of the readily available game footage, I was pretty unimpressed for a first round pick. But I'm just some dude.

Honestly I was shocked by how unimpressed I was. I expected some awesome stuff because he is a physical specimen and he pushed LSU's shite in.

But the rest of the time he was invisible.

methinks it is a yearly process of where all the talking heads and their mocks/rankings are adjusted from the rumors and intel gathered in the process. Robinson- elite top ten player by mockers in January. Combine, Pro Days, leaks, rumors= late 1st/early 2nd now. Opposite? Darron Lee in January was a mid 2nd Rder. Some now think he could go mid 1st Rd.

Gotcha - thanks. Yeah, I remember he looked like frickin Superman against LSU. He seemed to be in the backfield all night and that wasn't exactly a bad O-line. Didn't keep up w/ the combine so didn't hear he was unimpressive.

I feel he's too inconsistent in his play and kinda overrated. I think Jaren Reed is much better

All of this. I'm not a huge of fan of Robinson but he could just as easily be a nice value for a team picking in the 20's tomorrow night.

He made a few nice plays against LSU last year and all of sudden he's further bolstered his stock? I don't know. Personally I think that game was so overrated last year heading into it but that is neither here or there when talking about the draft.

From what I've gathered is that he's a 2 down nose tackle with little to no pass rush ability. So basically, he's a run stuffer in a 3-4 and I want nothing to do with him in a 4-3. You need someone to clog up space, he's your guy. You need someone to collapse the pocket and crash the interior, go Jarran Reed.

The word on him in all scouting reports is that Reed is strictly a run defender.

I believe his fall down the analysts boards had to do with them realizing that he was as good as he was at Bama bc of the work Reed was doing.

You mean Sheldon Rankins...

Majority of scouts think that Reed is strictly a run stopping DT / NT and just a 2 down player. And that's exactly what he was at Alabama, he had just 2 sacks and 16 pressures in 2 years in college. He actually was subbed out a good bit during obvious passing situations because of his inability to create pressure and collapse the pocket.

Well he was already pegged as a 1st RD pick and was on every 1st team All-America list heading into the season so it wasn't just the LSU game. It's just that he has games like the LSU one from time to time in which he really stands out while not doing much in most of the other games.

Who overperformed due to the luxury of being surrounding by 10 other 5* players at Alabama.

Well I was going between the 2 Bama DT's as what I've heard from some different people. I'm actually hoping we go Rankins because if Nick Fairley is on, our interior will be nasty.

Yeah Rankins might be the only DT that I would take at #12 that might actually be available (Buckner obviously won't be there). I think he and Buckner are clearly the top 2 DTs and have a nice lead vs the rest. If he's not there, I'd wait to address DT in the 2nd or 3rd.

It's such a stacked position in this years draft. You've got guys going in the late 2nd / early 3rd that would potentially be a late 1st / early 2nd in other drafts. Guys like Willie Henry, Hassan Ridgeway, Jihad Ward, Sheldon Day, etc are some quality DT prospects and you can get them in the 3rd. Crazy how stacked this DT class is.

He was overrated, he's still a 1st rounder though.

When CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora asked three scouts for a player or two who was being highly overrated by the media, all three said Alabama DL A'Shawn Robinson "fairly quickly and without much hesitation."

Two of the three scouts added Ohio State's Eli Apple. Most inside the league expect the Crimson Tide's Jarran Reed to go before Robinson. "That one isn't even close," said one top evaluator. "I really hope there are people in this league who like Robinson more than Reed. That just makes it easier for us." Robinson is powerful, but his lack of athleticism may prevent him from penetrating much in the NFL.

DT- A’Shawn Robinson (Alabama). A “wow” collegiate interior defensive lineman whose ragdoll-the-guard game doesn’t translate neatly to the NFL. If he keeps standing upright immediately after the snap, he’ll basically have his brute strength, the best part of his game, erased via the laws of leverage. Recently, CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora asked three NFL scouts for the name of a prospect who was better liked in the media than within the NFL. All responded Robinson “fairly quickly and without much hesitation.” Fairly quickly and without much hesitation at the same time? That’s either a redundancy of terms or an indication that the scouts’ non-belief in Robinson is so great that they intuited the overrated question as it was being asked and responded before La Canfora stopped talking. In Robinson’s case, may be the latte
