Down vote if you think we let him play out his contract

I can't think of a reason we wouldn't have signed him before now if we were going to (able to) sign him.

Upvote with my heart, down vote with my head.

No more than 25 mil a year.
With all the $$ available next year for free agency and 1 more good draft....
We make our run next year !!!

Absolutely no way does he sign on a potential bidding war if he hits FA. The only way he'd ever sign is go stupid like Andrew Luck and give a hometown discount out of the goodness of his heart. Not happening. He will get the money he wants after he takes the Saints to the woodshed because teams on FA with plenty of cap would go on a bidding war for him.
Colts got Luck at a bargain price even if he is the highest paid right now. He only got like 6% more than Rodgers contract from several years ago. Not exactly a lot of inflation from a young QB.

Won't happen. He wants one more gigantic contract before he leaves and he gives not one shite what team it's with.
If he has another great year, they'll be a FA frenzy for his services.

The more I think about it, the more I realize Drew Brees could have a chance to land in Denver if all doesn't go well with Mark Sanchez, Trevor Simeon or Paxton Lynch. Considering Denver is still in position to win it all, it wouldn't surprise me to see John Elway go after Drew Brees, even though it's hard to picture him anywhere other than New Orleans.

It would have already happened by now. Next offseason is going to be a circus, especially considering the franchise tag situation with Brees. I think the franchise tag for Brees next year is like $40m.

If this organization is dumb enough to let the best player in New Orleans Saints history walk then I'm all for this. Go win another ring.

Bottom line.....
Try and sign him certainly.
If we cant sign him.....hear me out now....trade him before he hits free agency to make sure we get something for him instead of him just walking out the door.
How many draft picks or players might we get offered ?

He'll play out this year then sign a 3 year deal with us. If we fully guarantee the first 2 years at $25 mil we can have play under $18 mil base the last year with incentives. Throw in a huge signing bonus too. New Orleans is his home, but we have to give him what he's worth.

Hey the last time he played out on a contract year he broke NFL records, and we should've won the Super Bowl.

Drew doesn't negotiate during the season. If it doesn't happen in the next 3-4 weeks... It ain't gonna happen.
Sooooo basically, it ain't happening.

New Orleans WILL resign Brees
Posted on 7/19/16 at 7:32 pm to TechDawg2007
Yes....I think he will resign.
Question is....at what financial price.
Do you resign him for 35 million dollars per year and cripple our ability to build a good team around him ? Do we keep Drew and settle for 7-9 seasons until he retires because we cannot afford to bring in a team around him ?
Can we resign him for about 25 million per year ?
Or....is it better to trade him before he hits FA and get drafts picks to bring in the next future longterm quarterback and additional players ?

We aren't going to trade him. That is a Madden move. It isn't something that will work out in real life. It doesn't actually make sense. Any team to which we would trade him would have to work out a new deal with him just like we would have to work out a new deal. It wouldn't give them any leg up in the negotiating. They wouldn't gain anything vs just waiting for him to hit free agency. They would just be giving up assets for the same opportunity that they would have anyway.
Even if it did make sense for a team to want to sneak a trade in right before free agency it doesn't make sense for the Saints to throw away any chances that we have of resigning him and therefore competing. Our odds are better with an overpaid Bress than without any good qb at all. Without him we are back to waiting possibly decades hoping for another somewhat competent qb to serendipitously fall into our laps.

You cant let him get to FA as his price will go up.
Someone like that idiot who owns the Redskins (Daniel Snyder) will throw mad money....it doesnt make sense but someone will pay $35 million.
It really all comes down to Drew and what he wants.
If he wants to make $35 million plus....someone will pay it.
Will it be the saints ?
Hey....as a businessman.. if Tom Benson pays that money....and then we cant afford other great players.... we will bring in teams with 7-9 and 8-8 records.
AND If THE DOME IS STILL PACKED WITH FANS....Benson will be fine with it because he's making money.
Two scenarios:
1) Saints pay $35 million a year....we have mediocre teams but we have Drew til he retires.
2) Drew signs for $25 million cause he loves Nawlins....we could make super bowl runs with hopefully good free agent acquisitions and good drafts.
In the end....I dont think Mickey and Sean want to move forward without Brees....so they will not trade him and take their chances on the resign.... and PAY HIM WHATEVER DREW WANTS !!!
Not saying thats correct... but just the way it will be.
Thats It.... :)

IF he's all about money....
Some team will pay him more. Doesnt make sense...but the Daniel Snyder's of the world are out there.
