A reasonable and hypothetical question. Would you trade Brees for Kirk Cousins. Brees is going to be here until he's done opening Jimmy John's restaurants around the city. Also we'll probably have to give up more due to his old age but I look at Cousins as a young franchise quarterback. The Redskins are in a jam with him, Drew can take them where they want go for a few more years while they still draft a young QB. Now we got our QB of the future and it give us time to build a Defense instead of worry about drafting one.

This idea can to my mind when I saw this:

No trade clause.

If it wasn't in place...still no.

How bout we just sign Drew to another 2 year deal after next year and ride him out as long as we can?

I choose this option over getting rid of him and day of the week.

Yes, but only if Payton is going to stick around for several years. Cousins is very good. Certainly not a "franchise quarterback".

Really? We haven't been to the playoffs in how many years? Meanwhile the Redskins were there 2 seasons ago.

and Cousins is such an elite QB that Washington refuses to sign him to a long term deal.

San Diego also drafted a guy to replace Brees. Not advocating for this trade at all but Cousins and Payton would actually do pretty well I feel.

Just find it odd that a team that has been in desperate need of a QB is even hesitant to sign him long term. He'll be 29 at the start of the season and while thats not terribly old, half his career is basically gone.

Just not all that comfortable giving Cousins a shite ton of money. Rather draft a guy now to be ready 2 years from now

It is a little weird for sure. I'm not that familiar with the situation. I'm wondering if he just wants highest paid qb in the league type money or if he'd be good for around 20.

Brees will be here on 1 yr deals until Brady retires. He should reach 80k passing yards. He will have cap friendly deals to help the team. He needs more post season accomplishments.
