The only thing that I think may be different this season is S and RB. I think that we may keep 4 of each this season.

I think that Sunseri will make the team being a 5th rounder (not guaranteed). But I have seen him play enough to know that he has good instincts and he plays fast. He is not scared of contact either. He can be that rotational in the box safety, that can cover better than Harper.

RB: I think that Payton will make this Ingram's put up or shut up season. I think that Payton will try to put a heavier load on him so hopefully there will be no need for 5 RBs. I do think that he will have one on the PS though.

I believe that one of the extras will either be placed along the OL or at WR on offense.

The other will probably be placed at CB where we have shown an inability to keep them healthy the last couple of seasons.

I think a lot more positions are open to change than just S and HB. We really don't know how things will play out and many people had Roby making it but Foster not and it being either Cadet or Robinson before the preseason(there are plenty more examples).

QB could be 2 or 3
HB could be 4 or 5(and if we keep or tradition of UDFA HBs alive it could be 5)
FB/TE will be 4(more of a question of 2 or 3 TEs)
WR could be 5 or 6
OT should be 4
C/G should be 4
DE could be 4, 5, or 6
NT could be 2 or 3
LB could be 7, 8, or 9
CB could be 4, 5, or 6
S could be 4, 5, or 6
K will be 1
P will be 1
LS will be 1

I get that that's your early projection and I'll have mine too. Just pointing out that many positions are open as far as how many we take into the season, and it can(and has) changed during the season.

Edit:
Also, you have to think of some of these positions more in terms of special teams and not backups. Like the 5th HB vs. 6th WR will likely be a return guy so it doesn't matter that he's a HB or a WR. Same thing with gunner, which could be a WR, CB, or S.

So it's not just about the position itself, but where the guy can help on special teams.

Oh.... I agree with everything you just stated. Especially regarding ST. In that regard I could see the extra spot go to the WR group, but extra lineman are valuable as well.

Either way, I think things may change a little regarding the final 53 as you stated.

I think at LB the 2 more that make it will be Reddick, and a battle between Rufus Johnson and Keyaunta Dawson for the final spot. Powell to the Toon "redshirt" season with Khairi Fortt to the practice squad.

We carried five at safety last year but I'm not sure we'll keep more than four this season. We were pretty weak with Harper and Vaccaro was only a rookie.

With the addition of Byrd...the quick transition to the NFL by KV...and addition through subtraction of others...the staff may be confident with only four.

Yup I think we go into the season with five cornerbacks and 4 safety's. With Marcus ball and Vinny fighting it out for the last spot.

Vaccaro being a rookie had nothing to do with keeping 5 safeties and Harper played his role well last year(if anything Jenkins was the weak one). We had the whole preseason to see if Vaccaro was legit and he was.

If we only kept 4 it would have been Jenkins, Harper, Vaccaro, and Bush. Hell we almost kept 6 with Leonhard(and we should have kept him over IAQ).

So your reasoning we kept 5 is flawed. We kept 4 guys capable of playing and 1 guy as a pure special teamer. If we keep 5 again it will be because of that same reason.

If none of these fringe guys can play special teams then that is the only reason we keep 4(or if a 6th corner plays ST better than the 5th safety).

Bradon Colman will make the final roster. Receivers will be colston, stills, cooks,Morgan, and Colman bank it.

I can see a 6th one sneaking on also, but you could be right about 5 of them. Meachem or Toon could squeak by.

GREAT list! Thank you!

This is the kind of work that sports reporters should be doing. Very good!
