He made the rookie mistake that celebrities make, and astute CEOs never make. He believed his own PR hype after his first year. He was born on 3rd base and insisted he hit a home run.

There was a genuine appreciation from many during Hoodell's initial tenure because of his punishment of the PacMans of the league.

Tags didn't like to punish players because unlike Goodell he recognizes and appreciates the enormous pressure players are under. Public just saw Tags coddling bad behavior, so Goodell with his PR antenae fully tuned, comes in and becomes The Punisher and much backslapping ensues.

But that is really all he did: punish the bad boys. Making the league safe bullshite was mandated by the NFL lawyers because of concussion lawsuit and he blew that royally by making the Saints his scapegoat.

Looks like RG is getting caught up in the PC steam roller he started. Funny to see him get run over by his own creation. Bye Rog!

andrew sharp nailed it

quote:

The only behavior this league polices effectively involves uniforms, celebrations, or marijuana testing that the rest of the country stopped caring about several years ago. Meanwhile, there’s still no HGH policy in place, head injuries remain a problem with no clear solution, domestic violence and offseason crime is an issue that’s not getting better, and as the league pushes for an 18-game schedule and a draft in late May, more people than ever wonder how much longer we can keep watching. However you feel about football, there are big questions this league has to ask itself over the next few years, and it’s hard to believe Roger Goodell’s the right man to answer them. After almost a decade running the league, he’s getting worse, not better. He’s consistently two steps behind public opinion and miles away from ever actually solving anything.

Has anyone mentioned that National Organization for Women is calling for Goodell to resign? Man I would dance the happy dance if that happens.

Thank you Ray Rice.

if the whole ray rice thing ended with goodell no longer being commish, he'd be one elevator ride with michelle Obama from being the man of the century with 85 years left to go
