No. 11 New Orleans Saints: Takkarist McKinley, LB/DE, UCLA
The Saints must address their pass rush (or lack thereof). McKinley is one of the college football season’s biggest risers. Here’s what one of The College Column’s Anonymous Scouts said about McKinley in October: “Terrific speed off the edge. Perfect for a 3-4 linebacker in the NFL. Could be the next DeMarcus Ware. Freak athlete. Ran a 10.58 in the 100-meter.” Tell me he doesn’t sound like a good fit for New Orleans.

doesn't sound like that great of a fit since we don't run a 3-4

I love the Dalvin Cook pick for Denver, but the offense and defense need line help.

That mock fell almost as bad as it could go for us. If foster went at 10 instead of Watson, that would be a total disaster scenario for us with no elite talents left.

I'd personally probably want Peppers in that scenario. But, with how the mock did go, I'd take Foster.

I keep seeing mocks with a CB from Florida named Quincy Wilson. No idea on how good he is but the consensus seems to be he has a higher ceiling than Tabor.

I'd rather have Foster or Tim Williams. I'm a Bama homer though.

No. 32 New England Patriots: Christian McCaffrey, RB, Stanford McCaffrey’s vision is something Bill Belichick covets. Plus, the ex-Stanford running back can contribute as a runner or line up in the slot. With that versatility, this just feels like a very Belichickian pick.

Takk McKinley 2016 Stats:

61 tackles (50 solo)

18 TFL

10 sacks

3 forced fumbles

Takkarist McKinley, UCLA

McKinley first caught our eye in 2014, as he picked up 16 pressures on only 102 rushes, and he’s improved his game every year since. This season, his 88.2 overall grade ranks seventh among edge defenders with a well-rounded 85.9 grade against the run and an 86.5 mark as a pass-rusher. McKinley has nine sacks, seven QB hits, and 26 hurries on only 227 rushes this season.

Vicious hitter & fast but too much of a C.P.W.T.H. risk.

Concussion protocol waiting to happen. I can't believe he leads with the crown of his helmet as much as does especially in this day & age.

The problem with McKinley is that he doesn't put his hand in the dirt. He's not big enough to play DE in a 4-3. He's a 3-4 guy.

That's what's wrong with most of these mocks, they rarely take a team's true needs or schemes into account. They just see "hey this guy is a pass rusher or this guy is a good, big sized corner, let's mock him to a poor arse defensive team."

And unfortunately, most of your ESPN and NFL.com mocks are the same way. I'd like to see the local beat guy's mock drafts.

I'm not saying Tim Williams isn't good.

But the dude isn't even an every down player in college. To take a situational player in the first would be ridiculous.
