Jared Goff will visit Saints

In my opinion, 2 reasons:

1) They like to meet with QBs they have no intention of drafting in the draft process so they can pick their brain when they face them in the future. They've done it every year.

2) If he somehow falls close to 12 they have to at least make it somewhat reasonable that they will pick him in order to have some leverage in a trade down.

if the saints fall in love with a franchise type qb, obviously you can't pass up that kind of value at 12..... i love draft.

Why don't they meet with every draft prospect if this is the case.

They met with Jameis Winston last year. They do this every year and many local reporters have commented that Payton likes to meet with first round QBs to pick their brain and get a feel for them.

They also meet with them so they are familiar with each other if the player becomes available in FA.

Ya hafta establish a firm Big Board. That includes every player at every position. Unless Xed off your board (medical, off field issues, whatever) you must establish a Must-Pick line. For Goff that might be late 20's. Even if no pick at hand you go on alert for a possible trade when that happens. That's my guess how the Ingram pick happened.

Mentioned before but Deuce and Will Smith were both picks at positions that were at little or no need at the time of the draft. Need is clearly considered but BPA trumps when close.

WANT. He won't fall to 12 though. Goff will go #1 or 2.

I wish I could make one. The scene where Superman rips Batman's cowl off would be perfect for this.

I can see the 49ers waiting to draft a QB.

Payton must be looking at Tinder during these meetings because we haven't exactly been solid against the pass lately.

If he miraculously fell to 12, I wouldn't be mad about picking him. He's the best QB in the draft by a mile.

I have no problem with this. Although they are not in an immediate hurry, the Saints' need to find Brees' successor. Why not interview the top QBs on the board to see what he is all about? If Goff blows them away in the interview and they feel they found their man, they can attempt to make a move. If they feel after the interview that they can find better later in the draft, in free agency, or in next year's draft, then no one is hurt.

Either way, don't see the harm in this and I don't think it's some underhanded scheme to get a leg up.
