Just wait till a well rested Ingram shows that Payton has been sandbagging all year

Having a great running game is overrated as far as being a SB contender. Sproles and Pierre in the short passing game is just as good as the 49ers pounding it with Frank Gore, if not better.

Was thinking the same thing.

This isn't the 80s anymore. Would I love to have a little more balance on offense? Sure. I'd love to have a 10" pole as well, but I can still take care of business without it.

OL protection is more important than trying to be something we're not and forcing a rushing attack.

But I will say, we can't continue like that forever, we will have to develop a run game as the season goes on. One dimension won't work with stout defenses.

Like the 49ers.

STFU Gump. The same line blocks for every back in the offense, yet Ingram still is out shined by all the other backs.

"Oh he just needs more carries...oh, he is just being used wrong"

Just shut up

They hate LSU but pull for the Saints because they don't an NFL team of their own. Gumps.... they're funny.

I guess you haven't been paying attention to the fact that NONE of our RBs seem to be able to convert on a 3rd and short.

Not sure how they are "out-shining" him, unless you count catching balls out of the backfield.

?? Most Bama fans pull for the Titans or the Falcons from my experience.

Regardless, yes, you'll need to improve in the run game to make it far in the playoffs. Obviously NO won't be a run 1st team but averaging about 20-30 ypg just won't cut it in the postseason.

Chad, you have a good point, but it's the getting there that worries me about the running game. I do think the Saints know their weakness, and won't abandon the conventional run, but they use slip passes to their backs as an extension of the run even though it counts as a pass. And it works.

A run game is most important when your defense is weak.

Anything a Falcons fan has to say about success in post season is immediately dismissed regardless of what they had to say.

Run game wasn't as bad as people thought early on, but Ingram just looked horrible to start.

Issues on the line are continuity, and several missed assignments. Chicago had our freaking OL coach on their sidelines, and I don't have any doubt in my mind a lot of the TFL on run plays were a direct result of that. He knows our personnel better than anyone and took advantage.

The OL is also trying to run a different run blocking scheme without a guru to implement it. Zone blocking is highly effective, but without proper technique it will backfire. Things will improve with time, and hopefully enough by the time the post-season rolls around.

Or when you have a lead to protect. It just puts me at ease if I know the Saints can 5-minute drive down the field and run the ball and not risk incompletions and not bleed the clock.

But, like I said, what they're doing is working, so I can't bee too concerned.

Well thats a double edged sword, even if you have a good run game, it can still be stopped if D is stacking the box. Key is not becoming too passive in play calling like i think payton did in 2nd half of bears game. I don't know if he was just being conservative with field conditions or what but i don't think we stayed very aggressive.

The best play on that drive was Lance Briggs giving us the win.
