Let's just forget the fact that Gronk went through a whole bunch if injuries.

gronk's elite blocking always made him the better player. he also had a better peak receiving season

now people are coming out of the woodwork to shite on graham. it's funny. you say the same shite back then and you were called out

I'm in the middle for this trade to be honest.

It's the smart place to be until we see how the rest of the offseason shakes out. Personally, I plan to white-knuckle this fricker till September.

Graham vs Gronk was a legitimate argument at one time. Jimmy was cheap and producing at a high level, Gronk was injured.

Even after he signed his extension, Gronk was still cheap. He signed for a bargain deal

Now?

Where have you been the last 2 seasons?

Not many thought that Graham was better when both were healthy.

You love making posts like this though to really choke your own dick.

It hurts this year unless the team really was planning to spend $12.5M on a Center, which they basically just did.

Trading Jimmy hurts this year and for the fact that we traded a guy under contract for 3 years for one only under the next 2.

It isn't a horrible move in the sense that Jimmy was the entire offense, but it will hurt acquiring players this year.

Well that is shortsighted and ignores the rest of the it.

Also, it ignores the $5 million we had to pay out for Graham's roster bonus that we no longer have to.

Except that we wouldn't just be signing free agents to 1 year deals and like to backload our contracts anyways

Not really unless you're looking for 2016 as the year to win a title and nothing past it.

Unger is a nice pick up, but he isn't a youthful player and has a decent-sized salary along with coming off injury.

In the end, I think it's a wash for both teams especially with New Orleans having to give up a pick too.

The Patriots make these moves before they sign long term contracts, they are still very reactionary

Would the patriots have given a fourth round pick?

That doesn't make any sense. You can structure deals with a good signing bonus and low upfront costs without destroying your future.

Also, this moves clears up more money in the future. That $9 million would have been paid over the next 3 years either way, and we save $4.5 million next year with both contracts, and have $10 million off in 2017

True, but he's only 28 and coming off a high ankle sprain. He played in the playoffs.

I don't really disagree with that.

That wasn't my point. We can sign a free agent to a deal this year that takes advantage of the additional cap space in the future that this deal saved.

This cost us $2.5 million this year, but also ignores that it could give us freedom to cut another player, like Evans or Grubbs, with the additional 1st round draft pick.

That $2.5 million is nothing compared to the money it frees up

But what if the rumors are true and we do get another pick?

It'd go from debateable to in the saints favor.
