Why would you exclude the shift? The QB is more important now than ever.

if you want to talk ALL TIME you take a player at the time of his play and how the game was played in that era,

That would certainly be a valid part of the equation, but you'd have to adjust to the role QBs have now.

They're more crucial to winning than ever before

Take special note to the records in regards to interceptions. Completely opposite of what the idiots on here are claiming, that he is an interception-prone, mediocre QB who no arm.

He has the 16th best interception rate ever at 2.6%, tied with Peyton Manning

He's been an absolute God in the playoffs

His deep ball is not as impressive as it was from 2009 and 2011. It was the best deep ball in the NFL by a large margin. He hit over 50% of his targets back then.

I was looking up YAC stats this morning, and I think the Saints are ranked 20th at the moment. Just doesn't seem like we get much after the catch now unless it's a screen. Granted, receiving corps is garbage right now, but it seems like to me Brees is, yes, getting the ball to the guy, but the DB's have time to react and are putting a hit on ASAP. Probably hard to prove, but I swear Colston has taken some monster hits this year. Maybe it's not any more than usual, but I want to say our receivers are taking a lot more punishment.

We've improved then

didn't Stills have the highest YAC average in the NFL last year?

Edit - he was 11th.

Would make sense. Oline can't protect, routes are run shorter, linebackers and safeties get to hit going forward

Maybe. Would like to see more of him because we need someone to stretch the field. Maybe my expectations of Cooks was wrong, but I thought he's be that guy as well.

I think they are using Cooks in the slot, if I am not mistaken. It looks like Stills is getting more reps on the outside, and Meachem on the other side. I'm honestly staring at the offensive line most of the game, it's like a train wreck that I can't keep my eyes off of.

It's Winston Churchill. You have a picture of a young, muscular black man. Should I make suppositions as to what that means about you?

Brees' insistence on throwing when he's pressured rather than taking a damn sack has killed this team. The defense hasn't been good, but we've lost 3 games on the road by a combined 6 points, and all with devastating INTs thrown by Brees at crucial times and all leading to points for the opponents that were the difference in the game.

If you are a franchise and supposed HOF QB, mistakes happen, but when they happen this much and just on clearly pathetic decisions, it is on Brees.

He built up a lot of good will in 2009 and 2011, but honestly since then, he's been mediocre and pretty much just a stat padder for the most part the last 3 years.

This is just really funny to me because after @Carolina last year, Drew was getting killed on here for taking too many sacks instead of throwing the football.

Point being, Brees is playing fine.

I've got no problem with Brees. Get him an oline and he'll get right.

I remember all too well the Richard Todds, Dave Wilsons and Billy Joes to get too upset. Too many people here think when we get rid of him, another franchise qb will just get plugged in. It could be 15 years before we get another reliably top 10 qb much less a top 3 or 4 like Brees.

One bad game where the O-line was getting destroyed. Big deal.

I don't think he gets near enough appreciation for his play the first 3 weeks. He was escaping pressure left and right and making plays.

He was playing lights out until the Tampa game when he decided he needed to play the hero without Graham.

He played pretty lights out vs. Detroit outside of 1 pass. While he shouldn't have thrown it, it was actually a pretty great play by the defender and a pretty bad one by Colston. He was open for the first 1 second earlier

say we fix the o-line in the next year, will all the haters on Brees quietly change their tune when he gets back to form? you give him a line and he will be back to form. cant wait to see all the "his arm sucks, hes done, hes this and that" posters try to find an answer then.

Completely disagree. Drew's ability to make things happen under pressure is one of his greatest strengths and weaknesses.

If he just took the sack like everyone wants, we'd be blown out every game with this defense.

quote:

The defense hasn't been good, but we've lost 3 games on the road by a combined 6 points, and all with devastating INTs thrown by Brees at crucial times and all leading to points for the opponents that were the difference in the game.

And none of them fit what you're describing.

Atlanta was just a bad decision forcing it to Cooks over the top.

Cleveland was not on Brees. It was a blindside hit that he didn't see to a wide open receiver. He got hit right before his release, and it still went through Graham's hands.

That one was on Payton for going empty backfield on 1st and 10

Colston was actually open vs. Detroit, Brees just had to hesitate and got the ball there a half second late. He shouldn't have thrown it, and Colston should have read the play better.

quote:

but when they happen this much and just on clearly pathetic decisions, it is on Brees.

The Tampa was really the only game that you can put on Brees, and we won.

quote:

Wow. You mean from 2006-2013.

quote:

PFF QB Standings

2012 - 4
2011 - 1
2010 - 4
2009 - 3
2008 - 7
2007 - 3

Last year, he threw a NFL best 10 TDs while under pressure to 6 Ints despite 8 drops.

quote:

, he's been mediocre

5,169 yards/season with 41 TDs to 15 Ints while completing over 65% of his passes is not mediocre

HE HAD A 105 PASSER RATING LAST YEAR

Honestly one of the dumbest posts I've ever read on tigerdroppings and Peej posts here.

Brees is becoming Favre. Won't take the sack and the next play but will sling the ball into triple coverage when falling down.

He should be the model of consistency on this team and his turnovers have HUGE impacts on the outcome of games.

Of course the defense and o-line deserve their fair blame as well. frick, this is just a shitty season all around.

Which Favre?

Favre only threw 7 interceptions in 2009...
