Freakishly huge atheletic young Olineman that's plays like a monster with tons of potential. Games are won in the trenches and we were severely lacking the big uglies! I can guarantee you Brees had a lot of influence with this pick and probably told them "Hey, I got my head almost taken off all year and was running for my life, I want some more protection!" Brees and the Saints were at their best (when they won the Superbowl) when they had a brick wall Oline that gave Brees all day to pick teams apart. Answer me this...what happens if Armstead or Streif becomes injured? We are screwed and have NOBODY behind them, so this gives us MAJOR insurance and probably Streif's replacement in the future. It's not the most wowing pick, but it definitely was the best pick we could have made. Plus the dude has ZERO character issues.

Agreed

I've never seen a collective group melt so much over picking on of the top offensive linemen in the draft

This isn't something you look for at 13 though. I think he'll end up being the starter, but the cost is too high for just depth between him and Strief

Also, you can add backups later in the draft

Didn't you know?

We desperately need backups to protect the long remainder of Bree's career.

I think in a way Sean was also thinking about life after Brees. While Peat should help while Brees is here, I think he also considered the importance of having a great line for when a rookie/young QB takes over. O-lines can play a huge role in developing a QB just as they can play a huge role in ruining a young QB. Just ask Derek Carr.

I don't doubt he was at the top of their board BPA. I give them credit for sticking with that.

At first glance, the question I and most have is "What happened to the players who start now" talk?
The only option that makes that look viable to me is Strief to guard and Peat to RT.

Most prolly question what the plan is too. Replace Strief? I do not doubt the talent but it is hard for me to value any RT as a #13 pick. Physically he looks more like an athletic LT. Move Armstead? Trade one of them? I dunno. I'd feel better if I knew the plan.

If he sits for a year or becomes no more than a RT I'll be disappointed.

Weren't we just applauding the front office for saying we want instant starters?

It's the 13th pick, not the 3rd round

This!!!! It was the smartest pick, addresses a major need, and we got the best guy available at the position. Then, we turn around at #31 and address another gaping hole in our roster! What more do ya'll want!!!??

You do draft Peat if you have a 36 year old quaterback. When Armstead was hurt last year Bryce Harris almost got Brees killed.Bryce or Nick Becton are ok to back up the right tackle position but they do not have the foot speed to back up Armstead. Also Stief is 31!!! by next year PEAT is the starting right tackle with Stief the vet back up for both tackle spots.

We payed a lot of money for a backup Tackle then.

You got a starter at 31

Will probably get one with the next two pics

And even then, Peat will probably end up starting

I think Saints put their best 5 o lineman on the field... Strief to G is what that means.

Even so, it just wasn't a position of need (starting T). I'm 100% for adding depth so Harris never sees the field again, but I just didn't want it at 13. I don't think that is unreasonable when Payton was talking about drafting instant starters.

And I have no problem at all with Peat's talent. I think he'll be a very good player

Peat was not projected to be there at that point! We had no way of knowing that until the draft played out! I bet you are one of the ones that were salivating at the mouth to take Gurley or some shite like that lol! Do we really want Bryce Harris out there again covering Brees' arse...well maybe you do but I sure as hell don't!
