The Philadelphia Inquirer suggests the Eagles could land a second- or third-round pick for ILB Mychal Kendricks.
The writing is on the wall for Kendricks, as he's entering the final year of his contract while the Eagles traded for ILB Kiko Alonso and extended ILB DeMeco Ryans this offseason. He's expected to be another talented victim of Chip Kelly's purge of the previous regime. A Day 2 pick is steep for a player that will likely be available in free agency next March, but perhaps Kendricks could be used to sweeten a trade-up for Kelly Thursday night. Apr 27 - 9:23 AM

I don't know a lot of his game from eyes on but he does have an outstanding rep. Have heard him called the best defender on the Philly squad. Specifically noted as one of the best coverage LBs. Drafted at #46.

I would give 5th Rd value for him as a one year rental without contract. If they could agree on a deal with him bump it up to 3rd. Would be a good chip in a trade. I'll try one...

Saints #13 to Philly for-

#20
Kendricks with a new contract
#84

OR

#20
Kendricks with no contract
#52

Cool bonus if the Saints drafted his brother Eric. I like the skill set combo and it wouldn't be bad for marketing.

I doubt they'd give up Kendricks and a 3rd just to move up 7 spots (certainly not Kendricks and a 2nd, you got some good shite you're smoking over there). They're looking for a 2nd or 3rd for him. I think more realistic deals would be:

- #75 or #78 for Kendricks
- #13 for #20 and Kendricks

I'd take either one of those deals.

Completely agree. Then draft his brother at 31 or 44.

That usually takes place with any trade of a player in a contract year.

But he will also cost more over the next 4 years than a 3rd round pick. I don't think the Saints give up a 3rd for him. Maybe a 2016 4th....something with less value than 75/78. I think they use one of those to move up from 31 to try to land Erik.

It's been discussed on here before, but here are my thoughts on why I don't think the Eagles trade him. However, if we could work out a new deal for him, I would easily send a 3rd to Philly.

1. They could deasily find snaps for all three (Alonso, Ryans, Kendricks), depending on the packages.

2. It never hurts to have depth, especially with Alonso coming off of an ACL tear.

3. No team is going to offer a pick high enough to entice the Eagles to take the deal, without him signing a new deal, which may be very difficult to do in a situation like this.

I mean, that would be incredible...but why would Philly come off of their 2nd/3rd asking price to what equates to a 5th rounder?

He also is more proven then a rookie you would take in the 3rd. I don't know what kind of contract he and his agent are going for, but as long as it's not a crazy high deal, I think he'd be well worth a 3rd round pick.

I would not give up a 2nd or 3rd for him given the contract costs that will follow (and the need for more restructuring).

Two problems I see with the proposal. First, they aren't going to change what they give based on whether or not we can work out an extension. That's on us and if it can't get done then there would be no trade.

Second is the value you're proposing is too slanted in our favor. If they value Kendricks as a second or third than that would be his "pick worth". A late second is around 300. The 13th pick is worth 1150 and the 20th is worth 850. So pick 20 and Kendricks equals pick 13. Maybe we could swing a 5th or later but we damn sure wouldn't get a second or third.

I think signing him to a new deal would be easier if we draft his brother too, but there's alot of moving pieces in that scenario.

The major reason we have been in a cap squeeze for a while is we continue to go after guys on second contracts (usually because poor drafting or the lack of picks or both).

Here are the stone cold facts:

AS we sit right now, the cap is projected to be $150M in 2016. The team has $130M in committed salaries for 35 players; that leaves $20M for everyone else. Sure, the team could play the money shell game again (little salary and a bunch of bonus money next year) but what happens if Kendricks falls on his arse like just about every other signing since Brees?

I guess if the FO has no confidence they can draft worth a crap, there isn't much choice but to buy retail.

Well if you look at the average contracts for his position it's not really that expensive. Now would be a good time to sign someone like him to a second deal before the next wave of rookie contracts is up and raises the ceiling of the avg contract.... That said I don't see a scenario in which we end up with him.
