Mickey isn't signing or drafting any guards to scare the shite out of drew to not play out last year of deal.

Brees’ agent Tom Condon said his impression is that the Saints feel the same way about letting things ride.

“At one point, New Orleans wanted to talk about a cap re-do, and Drew was more than happy to do that,” Condon said, via the New Orleans Advocate. “There were some intervening situations that occurred, so they didn’t need the cap room, and they seem to be satisfied with carrying that number right now.”

Norman was not the intervening situation.

Drew Brees never gets nervous. His competitive fire in the face of all adversity rules out nervous. He is an adrenaline junkie with a total will to succeed. Try taking some psychology 101 classes before you assess Drew Brees in the future.

Doesn't it make sense to just take the cap hit this year since we have the room and FA and draft are already over, rather than kicking it down a few years??

We still have the tag, albeit an expensive one, in our back pocket for next offseason if he's still killing it and we can't immediately come to a contract agreement. There is also the potential we can bring in a package of FAs next year that convince Brees to take a little less money for one more run.

At this point it doesn't matter. His huge contract is weighing the team down and has been since 2012. We can't compete with him or without him.

That happens sometimes. I feel comfortable with the fact that Loomis, like every other person in the organization, knows what Brees means to this team and city. He also knows this team can't continue to live in "Cap Purgatory" going forward. Brees is important but he can't carry the entire team.

Just a question,

If Brees plays out this last year on the $30M and becomes an UFA after the season do you think he has the Saints over a barrel in the 2017 offseason, or do the Saints continue to stand firm and let him walk if some team a QB away from contending comes in with a dump truck full of money?

If there is one thing Sean and Mickey have proven it's that they are not afraid to get rid of a player a year or 2 early instead of a year or 2 too late.

He's free to do whatever HE wants to after this year.
There is no "let him walk".
