Sorry if already posted, but I didn't see anything similar on the first page.

This upcoming game should be great for the Saints, whether they win or not. For once, "just get the W" doesn't actually apply. Reasons:

This game isn't as important as the Panthers games; if we beat Seattle but lose even 1 of 2 to Carolina, then we're still looking at the 2 seed. I think, based on the tie-breakers, it won't matter whether we win or lose, we need a split to take the division (I THINK we win the division with a split and the same record due to conference records; obviously we win with a better overall record).

While homefield overall is important, it means more for Seattle than it does for the Saints. They have a young team with a 2nd year QB, while we still have the heart of the team that won the Superbowl in 09. So, Seattle should come out pumped and fired up, and play like it's a playoff game. Their fans should be psyched and crazy, and their team and coaches will be playing for the overall homefield (because I think they know they lose in Nola in the playoffs); it will be as wild as it gets. That's great for the Saints. If we win, awesome. If we lose, we still get a complete look at what the NFC championship environment will be like. Whether we need to adjust for noise, etc. The more desperate Seattle is to win Monday, the more we see potential plays they may try in the playoffs. We see what matchups we can abuse, and what we have to fix... and then we get a rematch for the Superbowl.

As I said, the Panthers games will be bigger overall for us, those will be the high-stress games. I expect Payton to come at the Seahawks more with "let's see what you got" approach, and just be relaxed and have fun.

I agree that winning the Panther's games are more important, but this is still a very big game for us.

HOWEVER, I like the fact that we are playing them there. If we have to go up there during the playoffs, we have the experience of this game to build on.

I disagree with nearly everything you said

Panthers are more important, yes. That's about it...

This game is huge. I honestly don't expect to win. But it's still a huge game. Homfield is just as important for the Saints, if not moreso

Seattle is 5-1 on the road, if saints lose to seattle they'll be 3-3 on the road. Looks to me like the homefield would mean more for the Saints.

So the Saints are 3-2 this year and have the best road record since 2009

They've played the Panthers, Texans, Colts, Cardinals, Rams, and Falcons on the road

This game to me signifies our overall road hurdle as a team. This team needs to go up there and learn how to win in an atmosphere like that. I won't be devastated with a close loss, but if we turn the ball over and play like we did against San Fran and the Jets, we're not winning that game. We need to get over that hump because if we can't learn how to do it in Seattle, we're not gonna be able to in New York Super Bowl Blizzard.

I'm pretty stoked about this game because it's a chance for us to make a statement. To a lot of people around the league, we're a great team at home but struggles at home. In MNF, we might be able to finally put that to rest.

Win your Div then try to get the best record.
I don't agree with your thoughts on playing seattle at all. They have the best record and we are playing to win a tie breaker or outright possession of home field. CSP knows how important this is to his club. There is zero% chance that he goes in with a "oh gee lets just see what happens cause I'm more concerned 'bout carolina " attitude

The Carolina games are more important because you don't get HFA if you don't win the division.

I actually agree with everything you said. Obviously winning out and all that jazz is better but you have an excellent realistic perspective

Screw everything you said. Win this game. Win both Carolina games. Win against the Rams and Bucs, and go 3-0 in the playoffs.

Failure is not an option. We can do this.

ok, why not use 2008? or 2010? or 2011? Stats are easily manipulated.

Panthers,

This was the panthers only home loss.

We basically MUST go 3-2 down the stretch, with at least one versus Carolina. We do that, we win the division and probably have the #2 seed.

Ok, try to think objectively, not as a fan of either team.

One team is up-and-coming, with a 2nd yr QB. Prior to this year (and really, this season too, until about 2 weeks ago), the big focus was to keep their lead in the division over a team that had just went to the Super Bowl, not so much to win out and have the best overall record (and prepare specifically for the playoffs). They NEED homefield advantage, in my opinion. I think they may crack on the road in January.

The other team is filled with coaches and key players (QB, RB, WR, with a few also on defense) who've already been to the Super Bowl and won it. Homefield would be nice, but I don't think a necessity.

If there's going to be a rematch, I see it this way: we win Monday, we blow them out in the Dome the next time around. We lose Monday, I still think that if you could pick any NFL team (Broncos with Manning, Pats with Brady, Green Bay with healthy Rodgers etc), the Saints with Brees will give you as good a shot as you'd get, for 1 game to get to the Super Bowl. When you add in the fact that the Saints will have just played them in Seattle in a big environment, that tells me that the crowd (usu a big factor) won't make the difference; maybe the first game, but not the second one.

What was it, 2011, that we lost at Lambeau to Green Bay on opening night? I think the home field did help the Packers; but if we had a rematch, it wouldn't have been as much, cuz we'd been through it once already. And that was at the start of the year- this will be within 2 months.

Even the seahawks have 3 potential losses coming up

vs. New Orleans
@ San Fransisco
@ New York

Yeah, yeah..I know, New York has sucked it up this year, but they are doing their late season run and i would not be surprised to see them get in the playoffs

Who have played in road playoff games since the Super Bowl and lost every time.

Our road games have been laregely unimpressive this year, mostly on offense. At least that the impression im left with. And it cant be the beer. I drink the same either way.

Anyone have time to do a stat analysis between road and home games?
