The New Orleans Saints have signed quarterback Griffin Neal, according to his college coach Terry Horan and multiple reports.
Neal, 6-4 and 220 pounds, played college football for Division III Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn.
He was not drafted in 2015 (and did not appear on the NFLPA's draft-eligible list) and spent the 2015 season in Germany playing for the Hildesheim Invaders of the semi-professional German Football League.
According to the Fargo Valley News in North Dakota, Neal drew the eyes of coaches when heattended Tulane's Pro Day at the Saints facility in March. He was offered a tryout on April 8 and signed a three-year rookie contract the same day.
Neal played four seasons for the Cobbers, completing 402-of-631 passes (63.7 percent), for 5,614 yard and 47 touchdowns, all school records. He played in 34 games and started his final 30 games. He rushed for 1,331 yards and 22 touchdowns.
Neal was named all-conference in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference three times.
Watch Neal's highlights here.
Neal is the Saints fourth quarterback behind Drew Brees, Luke McCown and Garrett Grayson. The Saints typically keep four quarterbacks through the summer when their roster is at 90 players, but go with only two or three when they cut to 75 or 53 players.
A report by Inforum in Fargo, Minn., say Neal's contract is contingent on him making the team and does not include any guarantees.

He throws off his back foot, has a hitch in his throwing motion, and the ball wobbles a bit in flight, but he has size and what looks to be a good arm. Could be a guy to stash on the Practice Squad and groom as a potential backup. Or he could just be a camp arm.

I had no idea that that old school 1970 - 2002 style artificial turf still existed

Training Camp guy. Payton loves giving these guys a chance and teaching them things.

This a good sign to us not fricking around and drafting a QB?

Man, reading that, I was starting to wonder if this was a real person.

Any relation to former Oilers qb Gifford Neilson?

With those high school stats and his GPA and size what was he doing playing college football for Division III Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn.
