Mike Triplett @MikeTriplett #Saints signing former Georgia Tech QB Justin Thomas, per source, after he tried out at DB during rookie camp. Also did WR, KR at pro day.

Saying they signed him to a 3 year deal. I wonder where he will stick, DB or WR
He's a good athlete for sure and apparently had a good outing as a slot corner. Interesting move from QB to CB if that where they project hm at.

DB...

He can be the Saints' version of Malcolm Butler. MB went undrafted...

3 year deal seems super long for a guy getting signed off a rookie tryout, no?

i mean it's not guaranteed money but still

Kind of what I was thinking but then I went look around and it's a pretty standard deal. That's what Breaux got, a 3 year deal with some guarantees though. Adam Bighill was signed to a 3 year deal also.
Still a former QB making a good enough impression at a defensive position to get a contract is pretty cool.

It's the standard contract given to UDFAs, much like all draft picks get 4 year deals.

3 year deals ensure they can cut you for nothing while also keeping you under control in case you end up being a gem

Yup. Once the 3 years are up they can hit you with the RFA tender. Draft picks don't fall under that unless they get waived and no one claims them and they then sign a 1-3 year deal.

He was committed to Alabama for a long time too.

But when a school like Georgia Tech comes calling you don't turn down an education like that, especially if they let you play QB.

I really enjoyed watching him play. He kicked the shite out of Mississippi State in the 2014 Orange Bowl.

highlights

Looks like he has potential as a return man with that speed and his knack of finding the endzone on long runs.
