Walterfootball's grade:
quote:

Seahawks acquire TE Jimmy Graham, 4th-round pick from Saints for C Max Unger, 1st-round pick
Remember a year ago when the Saints gave Jimmy Graham all that money? It's amazing how quickly things can change in the NFL. Graham is now gone to the Pacific Northwest, and the Saints acquired Max Unger and a first-round choice in return.

I don't think there's a concise winner in this deal, as it makes sense for both teams. For Seattle, throwing the ball to Graham in the end zone makes a lot more sense than targeting Ricardo Lockette, or any of the other mediocre targets Seattle had. Graham's presence on the field will also open things up for Marshawn Lynch, who won't face stacked boxes anymore. More importantly, Wilson finally has a stud weapon to work with, so he'll be even better in his fourth season.

Wilson, however, loses a center, but that's not a huge deal because of how mobile he is. It would mean far more for a pocket-passing quarterback, but the offensive line isn't as prevalent for Wilson. It is for Drew Brees, who was beaten up last year because center Jonathan Goodwin was incompetent. Unger is a huge upgrade, and the Saints are getting a first-round pick on top of it.

Brees does lose Graham though, which is huge. Perhaps the Saints will use their second opening-round draft selection on a replacement in Maxx Williams, who fits the range at the end of the first round, though I currently have Williams going in the second frame. For more, check out my 2015 NFL Mock Draft, which was updated today.

Grade for Seahawks - B+

It would be cool if it worked that way. Would you rather Tharold Simon or a 1st round pick?

Saints need to cut Evans and draft a lineman. That o-line will be sick. We free up more money too.

This is honestly a good trade for us. Jimmy graham was a guy that was having health issues on a consistent basis, his toughness was in question; Brees was getting blown up from the center all year long in addition with th rest of the o-line not doing much better and that was a desperate need this offseason.

We let a problem tight end go and get one of the best centers in the game along with a first round pick. While not great, it's still a pretty good deal for us.

I think it's a great trade personally...that is assuming we don't draft a complete bust with Seattle's 1st rounder.

A team that has SJB, Corey White, Leigh Torrance, and Brian Dixon at CB is definitely too stacked to consider Tharold Simon.
Max Unger is probably better at corner than the dogshit we have.

Unger has had plenty of health problems of his own.

Is that true, other than the 6 games he missed last season (and he was back fro playoffs and super bowl) did he miss a lot of games in previous seasons? That's not what I've been reading.

It's not the player...it's the value. The only other option was giving up a 5th round pick instead of a 4th round pick. Seattle wouldn't accept a 5th.

Hmmmm.... very interdasting[/quote]

Yeah he can be upset in Seattle now not getting WR money and increase their cap hit in the future

we better hope that ingram wasn't balling b/c it was his contract year

I have a feeling he is going to perform. Otherwise all that bytching he was doing on the sidelines is going to be Payton in his arse this season

This is where he helps them most. I'm sure they hope the cost was worth it.
No one is happier today than Breesus and Mark Ingram. I hope and expect to draft a stud guard in the 1st round to open the middle MI likes and to protect Brees.
To grade this as of now as anything other than a break even for both teams seems silly.

yup

said that in the other thread as well.

Get a solid guard and a middle lineback, plus an additional free agent CB, and I would say the Saints are sitting nice and pretty
