i agree. It's pretty obvious at this point that the FO thought they could get by with sub-par talent on the front seven like they did last year...without a servicable OLB besides Shanle and Sharper they're probably having 2nd thoughts. I mean, frick, our biggest attempt at addressing the DT spot was Al Woods?

seriously? arrington looks slow as shite

exactly, and we dont have a slot WR like Lance Moore than makes him expendable, imo. The next closet thing is REggie Bush and David Thomas.

Not that I would like to lose any of our WR's, but Devery's career ypc, combined with elite speed and legit size for being a speed receiver, also considering that he is in his prime, already polished, and cheap, he would probably be our best bet at getting an impact player at LB. We have 7 picks next draft, I think, so package a high-mid conditional pick with Devery, and we should be able to get a guy like Merriman or atleast someone like Derrick Johnson, IMO. But, who knows?

Tells me they are missing Fajita more than they anticipated.

Actually, it's pretty obvious to me that they thought Clint Ingram, a starter last year with the Jags, would be healthy by now and would likely start for us.

No way they trade Devery, a hometown favorite. And I personally will admit wouldn't think would amount to crap.

Are you serious? Did you just start watching this team in the preseason? Brees and Vilma are probably the only two players they wouldn't consider trading. They have proven time and again they will get the best players for their system and the best players will make the team based on performance. They would trade Devery or anyone in a second if it made this team better.

That said, I really wouldn't like to see any of our top WR leave. If anything, maybe Lance Moore and a mid-late draft pick.

Either of those would be terrible trades. You're not going to find equal value for a guy like Devery if you are focusing strictly on OLB (and Merriman isn't a 4-3 LB anyway).

I really hope we don't trade meachem... Im sure we will get a good OLB for him but whereever he goes I think he will go off

agreed. I don't think you trade Moore, you would probably have to go with either Devery or Meachem since they play very similar roles in our offense.

Moore has proven himself time and time again to have the ability to produce for this team, people just need to let it go that he's not tall and lightening fast....

Devery is the only WR under contract for more than 2 seasons. There's a chance we would lose both Colston and Meachem after 2011 and we'd be buggered. Devery would at least allow us to transition to a new WR corps. Meachem is most likely.

Devery being traded could open up some salary cap room for paying Meachem and Colston. Plus allow them to get a LB. Also, don'tbe surprised if there are more changes next off-season on D. We need to get young and build. When players get to about that age, we need to be getting the most for them and moving on to our younger guys. This is a process and as much as I hate to see it, may be just one of those things that must happen.

Don't know how u can say that. Ingram was a restricted free agent whom the saints had no interest in giving up picks to get for the first 2 months of FA.

They didn't sign or draft any other OLB to be a starter till Ingram just fell in their laps.

Don't really think you can say Ingram had been the plan all along unless you're saying they knew the Raiders would draft McClain leaving them with Morrison as expendable, trade Morrison to the Jags, which let the Jags rescind his RFA tender.

You guys talking about trading Meachem are crazy IMO. He looks to me like he's about to blossom into an Alvin Harper or John Taylor in their prime type #2 talent.

Devery has developed into everything we could hope for, but we've seen his upside. I'd hate to lose him, but if we were able to land an AJ Hawk or McIntosh plus a late pick for him I'd be okay with it.

You guys are nuts if you think they will trade RM. It would have to be a major OLB, IMO. RM is a rising star at WR in this league and still has 2 years left on his contract...

Arrington is slow as frick compared to RM.

One difference between Meach and Devery is that Devery performed big time in the SB. That has to be a factor in SP's mind.

Devery is very good but meachem just is going to be good for another 4-5 years and Devery maybe has 1 or 2 good years

That's exactly what we are talking about. You've got to give value to get value.

Saints will have to overpay for whatever LB they get, though. No one will want to trade a good starter, even if it's for a good WR. WRs always take time to adjust and become acclimated with their new team. Same with OLBs. Both teams in the trade will suffer short term. A DT can step right in, though.
