If Jimmy says no to Gronk like contract, Saints have the leverage to tag him, and say, hey we tried. He'd also risk injury. If they are stiffing jimmy, he's got the leverage, and can hold out next season. Anyhow, it's to both the Saints and Jimmy's advantage to get something done now.

Probably a move to try and get him cheaper than what they would if he signed after the season. They know he's going HAM right now and need to sign him ASAP. Good move. Either way, he'll get #1 TE money in the league.

Dude deserves top contract. He's a worker and productive. I still get mad at the contracts Loomis signed Brooks, Grant, and Harper to. Somebody I'm leaving out can't remember. But all thes guys are set for life and someone else's life. Brooks owns apartments complex and shopping malls.

Last year, Gronk took a $54 mil 6-year deal with $18 mil guaranteed. So it should be in that range, I would assume.

If I was Jimmy's agent, I'd point to Gronk's health concerns. I bet it ends up somewhere around 6 years, $60 mil with $20 mil guaranteed.

At this point, you have $100mm invested in Brees and Jimmy is the best TE and basically is a WR. You pay the man, avoid the mess from Brees contract and can't wait to drop shitball salaries like those of Harper next year.

perfect timing

let's wait until the final year of his deal, after he's already established himself as the best player at his position AND after 2 BEAST MODE games

Jimmy was a beast the day he stepped on the practice field.
Last year was the best opportunity but without CSP a smaller chance it would get done.
Both sides generally like leverage and the agent has a little more in any "last year". Not a lot of surprise here as he will get around Gronk money.
