I was at the game, so didnt get an explanation on it. Why did the Saints not get another try at a field goal?
Kick was blocked on 3rd down, Lions never had possesion of the ball and it went out of bounds. How is that any different than the RB fumbling the ball and it bounces off his foot and out of bounds.

I was there and the scoreboard had 3rd down, which is what I thought it was too. Either the scoreboard was wrong or the NFL rules are diff than college.

I always thought that if the kick was blocked on a 3rd down then you were screwed. If you muffed the snap without a kick then you get another chance.

It doesn't matter what down it was. Kicking the ball is a change of possession.

the scoreboard said 3rd down. I was wondering why we didn't get another shot at the field goal as well

think it has to cross the line of scrimmage...see the Iowa-Iowa State game

unless the NFL has a different rule on this

That was because someone touched the ball.

A blocked field goal or punt results in a change of possession, as long as the team kicking does not recover the ball for a first down.

I believe its if the ball goes forward you lose it.

I'm pretty sure that the rule is: if the defending team touches the ball after it is blocked, then the ball is live. Otherwise, it's a dead ball and the other team takes posession.

It has to be downfield for it to be a live ball. Touching it behind the LOS doesn't change anything.

Why isn't anyone asking why we went for the kick with time on the clock left for another play?

I believe we had 6 seconds on the clock. Not enough time for a pass play AND a kick if we dont get the TD.

Has to cross the line of scrimmage. This JUST happened last week with Iowa and Iowa State. Since it crossed the line, change of possession.
