Stetson is absolute trash. Haener is better than him imo.

I love this round. The saints played rounds 1-3 completely sober and round 4 they woke up and remembered who they are in the draft.

5'11" 1/2 QB another Brees

Saw an article saying that he was the closest QB to Drew Brees in this class.

You have to think Derek Carr had some input here to get his backup and training partner?

Kind of weird with us getting Carr and I think Winston is staying as a backup?

I'm guessing this is a project for a couple of years in the future?

He interviews like a 10 year pro. Confident and intelligent. Love that he played in Tedford’s pro style offense too

Is this the guy that rallied his team in a late night West Coast game where he busted his ribs, legs, etc and kept coming back to win the game?

If so, Lord he’s tough. I remember saying this kid is a team guy for sure. A take.

ETA: yep. He beat No. 13 UCLA 32-30 on late minute TD while in intense pain. Glad to get him. Hope he makes it.

Not a bad pick, IMO. Not sure we needed to trade up for but I don't have my ear to the ground in draft circles so

After being up all night and going through every player left the Saints choose two guys who they wanted to move up for and get. Nothing sudden about these two moves.

Brees will tell you, the years of having a good backup helps during the week.

A smart Qb who can help give you another set of eyes to see the field better. Why not?

Haener is a great pick. Played in pro style offense, 72% completion rate, 20TD-3INT. Great decision maker, accurate QB. He would not be overwhelmed if he had to step in and play. Very underrated pick to me.

He checks every single box except athletic specimen and cannon arm.

Or if he shines in practice and preseason, they can cut Winston. I mean are they going to carry this kid, carr, winston and taysom on the roster???! That just seems dumb.

I wanted Clayton Tune but the analysts are really high on Haener. From ESPN:
quote:

Pre-Draft Analysis
Haener is the most underrated quarterback in the 2023 class. He doesn't stack up physically and didn't play in a Power 5 conference, but he's a baller who built on an outstanding college career by winning the Senior Bowl MVP award. He has good anticipatory accuracy and throws receivers open. Haener has excellent touch, timing and placement on short and intermediate throws, though he can be a little erratic on deep shots

Seems like a 40 year old Drew Brees lol I joke before someone takes this in a serious manner.

Haener is probably the most accurate passer in this draft. Him or Stroud imo.
