Per PFT twitter.

According to Ben Volin of the Boston Globe, the Saints are bringing safety Matt Elam in for a tryout this weekend.
The 26-year-old Elam was Baltimore’s first-round pick in 2013, but injuries and uneven play helped earn him a bust label. The Ravens let him walk after his 2017 arrest on drug charges, and he hasn’t resurfaced since.
But Volin reports that those charges have since been dropped, which means teams are going to be willing to take a look. It costs nothing to give him a chance, and the Saints could always stand to add depth to a secondary that made great strides last year.

former first rounder who sucked and got into legal trouble. worth a flier, but they better keep scissors ready to cut that string

Nice. We need a run stopping safety

His 2016 PFF score was in the 40s...doesn't look like anything special, but maybe he can fill that Roman Harper role.

Tells me they were disappointed in Vaccaro as much as we were.
Liked Elam out of the draft.
Rotoworld-
A first-round pick by the Ravens in 2013, Elam sat out all of last season in part because he was arrested twice in a four-month span last offseason. All charges were dropped in both cases, however, and he has served the six-game suspension which was handed down last October. Elam has never played up to his draft stock, but he is still just 26. He could be a solid reclamation project.

Won’t make the team. He was terrible before getting into legal trouble.

If you want a safety who can’t tackle, he is your man.
ETA: Go to r/nfl to see Ravens fans opinion on him.

Could be an upgrade
KV was at 35.4 last year

Not saying he'll be good or anything, but he's worth a workout...it's not like it's going to cost us anything.
We still have an open backup Safety spot to fill. Our top 3 Safeties are locks, & Banjo will likely be the #5 Safety (special teams only). The only thing that might push Banjo out is the fact that his competition for back-end DB's also play special teams. Guys like Jamerson, Kamrin Moore, Hardee, & Maulet. Not sure if Elam plays special teams though.
The options for that #4 Safety spot are Jamerson (might wind up a CB), Kamrin Moore (might wind up in the slot), Rickey Jefferson, Mykkele Thompson, & J.T. Gray (UDFA).
We really need a backup Strong Safety that's good against the run. Not saying Elam is that guy, but he's not competing with anyone that has proven anything...literally nothing.

To be fair, half of the games he did play in, he was hurt. He shouldn't have been allowed on the field.

Just read his brother Abram Elam's (NFL vet at safety) Wikipedia.
This family is a trainwreck.
Three siblings murdered. Donald Runner shot and killed in 87. Sister Christina shot and killed in 1999. Donald Elam shot and killed at 14, once youngest person in Palm Beach County to be indicted for murder (acquitted).
Abram was at Notre Dame until a sexual battery conviction got him expelled and he went to Kent State. Jesus Christ
