even if DE Derek Barnett is still on the board.

Fyi, fwiw, otoh; tl;dr

quote:

Here’s how I think the first 10 picks will go:

Browns: DE Myles Garrett, Texas A&M
49ers: DT Jonathan Allen, Alabama
Bears: DE Solomon Thomas, Stanford
Jaguars: FS Malik Hooker, Ohio State
Titans: SS Jamal Adams, LSU
Jets: RB Leonard Fournette, LSU
Chargers: CB Marshon Lattimore, Ohio State
Panthers: RB Dalvin Cook, Florida State
Bengals: ILB Reuben Foster, Alabama
Bills: QB DeShaun Watson, North Carolina

Saints: DE Taco Charlton, Michigan
The Saints will have plenty of options if they stay at No. 11 but I don’t think they can pass up Charlton. We all know pass rush is the Saints’ greatest need and this selection could come down to a choice between Charlton vs. Derek Barnett. Barnett is more consistent and productive. Charlton is more athletic and precocious. Tough call but Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis are naturally aggressive and the ceiling for Charlton is greater than Barnett’s. The 6-5, 277-pound Charlton has tremendous size and has been compared to Justin Tuck and Chandler Jones. The Saints would gladly take that kind of talent alongside Cameron Jordan, Sheldon Rankins and Nick Fairley. I also loved this comment from an NFL scout about Charlton in The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: “Loved by his teammates and loves the game of football."

That's such a damn reach. If we can keep 32 and get Butler. Draft BPA at 11 and get TJ Watt at 32

Maybe first time I've ever seen the word precocious used to describe a 6'4" 270 lb dude.

In the end, it will be very hard for us to miss at 11. No matter who we end up with, Barnett, Taco, Foster; etc. they will have an immediate impact on our team. As long as we don't pull another Andrus Peat, we're in great position at 11. SOMEBODY of need will be there.

ehh, lets see Barnett's pro day when he isn't sick. Dude could show out, which could also mean he may not be around at 11 anyway.

Charlton just doesnt move the needle for me. But i guess if they are looking for a true 2 way end, he would be the guy at that point if Barnett is off the board.

Kind of the same here. I mean, he really LOOKS the part.

But he was inconsistent, and everyone expected him to destroy the combine, and it was a pretty underwhelming performance.

I don't remember seeing Charlton play in college, but I wasn't relly impressed with him at the Combine.

I'm ok with Taco, he should be NFL ready with a Harbaugh pedigree.

if they're both available, trade down a few spots to try to pick up a third and take whichever one is left. If we get unlucky and they're both gone a few spots later, trade down again.

The defensive talent gap in this draft is like this:

Solomon Thomas: 3rd-6th

Reuben Foster: Pass. If Anthony can't learn our scheme, no chance in hell foster can. Plus he has a tendency to inflict brain damage on himself. I'd be surprised if he can read street signs.

barnett/charlton: 11th-16th

after that there are maybe 10 defensive players all bunched together that in another year all would have a shot at being first rounders, but just due to shear numbers they'll be spread from late first all the way to the end of the second, maybe even early third. We could get Tak mckinley, tim williams, a safety, a corner, an offensive weapon, and maybe more. If there was ever a draft to do something like this, it would be this one.
