Do the Saints take him in round 3 if he's still available?

No. Kickers drafted in the first 4 rounds have rarely been worth it for the teams that drafted them.

I almost want us to do it...just so I can read Chad's melt thread...then cry for the rest of football season as our team still sucks because we blew a 3rd on fricking kicker.

I find it difficult to imagine we won't draft him.

Chad may jump if we draft a top 3 round kicker.

loaded with talent? Great pick up for a team.

We are not loaded with talent.

We wouldn't be having this discussion if the Saints had kept the right kicker after this past off-season. They missed out on having a solid, dependable kicker for the next 15-20 years when they released Hopkins. Hopefully they can redeem themselves and find a stud kicker, but after the parade of kickers the Saints have had in the Sean Payton era (Cundiff, Mare', Gramatica, Hartley, Carney, Graham, Hocker, Forbath, etc.) I think it's safe to say the Sean Payton era has not been known for having consistent kickers.

Thank God for Morstead though. At least we've had consistency in that aspect of special teams.

Worth a 3rd rounder, IMO.

Or if they would've just looked down the fricking street with Santos. How is it that so many people on here thought we should get him but the FO was blind to it?

And for people who think we shouldn't "waste" a pick; they've done plenty of that in recent years. If this guy is a kicker you can have for a decade and count on him hitting FGs then he certainly can pan out better than projects or backups.

Moreso than other positions? Janikowski, Lohmiller, Hanson, Nugent were the recent ones. Morten Anderson was a 4th rounder. I would think that if he is available in the 4th, it would make a lot of sense to take him. I agree though that this could have been avoided had we kept Hopkins.

He gets drafted then misses his 1st FG for us. The melt will be real.

Draft him in the 5th or 6th and I'll be OK with it as long as we address the Defensive needs.

I'm fine with a K in round 4+, never in the top 3. Too many starters at FOOTBALL positions are found in these rounds

Hanson was the best of those but he wasn't a game changer. Martin Gramatika went in the 3rd and he was nothing special. Alex Henery is another guy who went in the 4th rd and he's out of the league already. Gostkowski went in the 4th rd and he's definitely been worth it but Payton might've cut him his rookie year when Gostkowski missed 4 kicks with 40 yards.
So that's Gostkowski and Andersen who were at the top of their position and a lot of others who were right in the mix with a bunch of undrafted guys.
