I see that he was talked about in the UDFA, but I figured the guy deserves his own thread.

NFL.com writeup:
quote:

Strengths: At his best down the field. Adequate deep speed with good concentration and ball tracking. Doesn't let defenders crowd him against sideline downfield. Creates space for himself and is able to adjust to the ball and finish tough catches. High-point catcher with good hand strength. Has some shiftiness to his game after the catch and is able to create yardage with bouncy short-area quickness. Consistently productive. Went for more than 100 yards receiving and at least one touchdown in eight of his first nine games in 2014.

Weaknesses: Would like to see more focus to pluck and secure quickly on short throws. Shows tightness in hips, leading to upright routes and a lack of bend into breaks. Slow to unlock and accelerate when making stop-and-start cuts and his speed cuts are rounded and drifting. Too "gradual" into his breaks, allowing defenders time to react and close distance. Won't create as much separation underneath through his routes as desired.

Draft Projection: Priority free agent

Bottom Line: Frequently targeted, system receiver who had three straight seasons with more than 1,000 yards receiving, including 2014, with 1,551 yards and 15 touchdowns. Harris has average height for an outside receiver, but an above-average skill set when the ball is in the air. While his ability to gain yards after the catch is solid, he doesn't appear to have the athletic ability and acceleration out of his cuts to get open consistently in the NFL.

Senior Season Highlights

Some more info about him:

quote:

Harris is regarded as an ascending draft prospect, drawing middle-to-late-round draft grades. The former Arundel standout has visited the Green Bay Packers and had private workouts for Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly, the former New Hampshire coach, and the Miami Dolphins.

quote:

During his Pro Day workout, the 6-foot, 200-pound receiver ran the 40-yard dash in 4.49 to 4.53 seconds, bench pressed 225 pounds 18 times with a 37.5-inch vertical leap, a 10-7 broad jump, a 4.2 short shuttle and a 7.23 three-cone drill. During his workout, Harris caught every pass.
quote:

Harris caught 100 passes for 1,551 yards and 15 touchdowns last season, setting school single-season records as he led the nation in receiving yards. Harris had over 100 receiving yards and at least one touchdown in eight of his first nine games last season. Harris finished his career with 310 receptions for 4,328 yards and 36 touchdowns. As a junior, Harris caught 76 passes for 1,004 yards and five touchdowns. As a sophomore, Harris caught 84 passes for 1,059 yards and nine touchdowns. As a freshman, Harris caught 50 passes for 714 yards and seven touchdowns.

A fantasy writer (for Dynasty leagues) that I follow on Twitter talked a little about him in regards to our WR depth chart:

@Fantasy_Mansion 14h14 hours ago @evansilva i like rj harris to move ahead of morgan & coleman, but not jones. seantavius is a nice deep-dyno stash. toon will be 27

Maybe, but it's WAY too early to say for sure, especially given our lack of talent at WR. But we all know how you love your premature, definitive statements with no substance.

After Colston, Cooks, and Toon, there are likely two WR spots open out of Coleman, Jones, Morgan, and Harris. Not too crazy to think that he can beat out of two of them.

We need to go get James Jones. He's the answer at WR3. Championship.

That's what I thought too. BUT I don't know. I mean, watching his highlight film is not a good tool to grade a player. But still, the negatives about him was his size, the fact he played at a shitty D2 school and that he was a system receiver.

I think he could be a steal to be honest. I already think he looks better than Toon. Though I'm a Toon Hater. I think he has a good chance to make the team and be our 6th WR. Just something about the kid that jumps out at me. He looks like a player.

WR: Cooks, Colston, Jones, Morgan, Toon, Harris.

Certainly looked good enough to make P-squad. Didn't stand out in any one thing but did everything fairly well. Very smooth.

Its his production that will help him to stand out in camp. A four year starter will most likely pick things up quicker and drop less than some of the other guys we bring in.

Its good to put the great WR debate of 2015 to bed

I didn't watch the whole thing, only about the first dozen plays. Looks pretty good, but we'll have to wait and see how it translates to the next level. It's a big step from playing against Chattanooga to playing against an NFL team.

I found it funny how the first play on the highlight reel is him getting a penalty called for OPI.
