re: Realism for today's game

What I've taken from the Jets game, as well as other road games the Saints have played, is that it's obvious to all of us that the Saints are not the same team on the road. They usually play lights out in the Dome, because the way the team is built is built for a controlled environment. That's not to say the Saints haven't played good on the road before. But certain games on the road, they have really stunk up the joint, like yesterday. Sure, they stayed competitive in the game, but it was obvious they were struggling and could not find a rhythm. We also caught the Jets on a bad week. This was their "win" week, because they win every other week, and this week so happened to be their good week.
Carolina is hot on the Saints' trail in the division, the Saints need to keep winning to stay ahead. Atlanta is clearly not the same team they were from last year, and Tampa Bay, despite giving Seattle their best shot yesterday, hasn't even won a game yet. So at this point, the NFC South belongs to either Carolina or New Orleans. The two games with the Panthers will be extremely crucial, the Saints need to get it done in those games. Hopefully next week they can get back on track by beating the Cowboys at the Dome.

The only real two issues that will continue to linger are poor OL coaching and an insistence on abandoning the running game before the game even starts.
the Saints need to tighten up that run defense too.
you were talking about the safeties being out yesterday but I think you have to look up front and wonder what was going on.
I saw Bunkley doing okay a few times, I think the guy who was blocking him got called for holding a few times. Hicks did okay yesterday but he is still a hot and cold player right now I think. When you look at the road he has taken to get hear I guess you could expect that, he was a raw player when the Saints picked him.
the pass rush has been a lot better this year but there weren't as many times that they were able to get it going yesterday. It was just the way that the game played out. A lot of that had to do with the inability to stop the run.
The play where Ivory ripped off like a 53 yard run when the Saints had them backed up deep was a turning point in the game I think. There they were 2nd and 12 from their own two yard line and boom... there goes Ivory for a big gain. I know they only got a field goal out of that drive but you had to feel like they weren't going to get shite when that drive started.
that sequence and the missed FG by Hartley on the opening drive were huge.

but fact remains Saints have lost to two teams with a combined 12-7 record by a combined 9 points on the road. It happens.
They also haven't beaten a team with a winning record, except for Chicago and they're only a game over .500. All the playoff teams will probably have winning records and most of those games will probably be on the road. I'm not saying the Saints are terrible, just that the signs don't point to a very deep playoff run.
We'll learn a lot the next five weeks.

Not a deathblow but it's pretty strong evidence that this team isn't as good as many of us thought. We're through eight games now and the offense is still erratic and has yet to find its stride.

Drew Brees plays better in cold weather than he does in warm weather
What's Drew's record in the playoffs on the road?

what are Drew's numbers in playoff games on the road? he's been sensational.
Also, we've only played 1 cold weather playoff game

The Saints are what they are: a defensive liability and a one-dimensional offense. If Brees has a bad game, they lose. If he plays lights-out they win.

10-6 is probably a little more realistic... I see 9-7/10-6 & a Wild Card game on the road. Probably somewhere really nice like Green Bay.
Bump. Hate to say I told you so, but...
