I was just wondering with Cam Newton getting his big contract it now sets the table for Luck and Wilson. I've been hearing they were going to probably sign for a little more than Cam for good of the team. My feeling is if I'm Andrew Luck it should be the same scenario as Lebron James in the NBA were I need to try to sign for most I can get to set the market for the next crop of Qbs. I feel it's basically the same situation

Wilson will not command that kind of money.

I completely disagree here. I put Wilson better than the Tannehill, Dalton, Kaepernik, Flacco bunch that got that kind of money. To think he wouldn't command that is little nieve.

Anyways, was listening to the radio last night and Jason La Canfora was on. He was saying that Wilson will be risking injury this year and maybe losing out, but if he stays healthy and has his typical year, Seattle is going to wish they had signed him earlier than they did. The franchise tag for QB's might be $25 mil.

So a QB who won a Super Bowl, was one play away from winning another one, in only his first four years of his career, won't command that type of money?

And I'm not sure his agent or the player reps would like for him to take less than market value either.

dude, seriously?

If I was Wilson, and my agent told me I shouldn't command more money than Cam Newton... I'd throw my superbowl ring and 2 NFC championship trophies at his head.

If that's there objective, then they should make the bold move to force even a larger percentage of their contract to be guaranteed. I think the more eye opening aspect of Cam's contract is the $60M guaranteed and the contract appears to be front loaded. That move could help this move to make more of the contract's front loaded (which goes w/ what AP was bitching about).

I agree here, but those guys contracts are very team friendly and are basically two year "prove it" deals. No real long term guaranteed money or security. If they don't perform over the next two years then the teams can cut ties with them with no significant salary cap implications.

The market for Russell will probably be a little higher than it was for Cam and he will get the long term security that can strap a team salary cap wise. I hope Seattle has to break the bank for Russ...

but Cam >>> Wilson.

Not only is Wilson's contract going to top Newton's, but there's been talk of Wilson getting a fully guaranteed deal. Not saying it will happen, but there have been a lot of talks about it.

Your only respectable response here is to say you meant he will command more money.

While I think it is close between them (I think they are both right around the top 10 to 12 range). I just think Cam has been asked to do A LOT more with A LOT less over his career. Russell has played his career so far with the best defense in the league, one of the best (if not the best) offensive lines in the league, and one of the best running backs in the league.

Cam has had a solid defense for most of his career but nothing special outside of the 2013 defense. Neither of them have had great receivers to throw to really, but Carolina has no real rushing attack (outside of Cam) to where Seattle has had the best rushing attack in the league while Russell has been there and they have overwhelmingly leaned on that to be successful (rightfully so). They both struggle with accuracy issues a little bit, but I think if you put Russell on the same Panthers teams that Cam has played with, Cam will have done better for sure.

IMO, I don't think Russell is a $20-25 million dollar a year QB right now, and the Seahawks don't seem to think so right now either. I think Russell is a very good QB but nothing "great."

Well he'd probably hand them off now just to be safe.
