Last season finished 11th by their ratings.

quote:

12. New Orleans Saints (11th)
PB: 26th, RB: 5th, PEN: 6th

Stud: The team has struggled up the gut with pressure, but has done a much better job on the edges. It’s gone unnoticed but second year tackle Terron Armstead is getting better.

Dud: For a long time Jahri Evans has been very good. But he’s had a couple of issues this year in pass protection, chiefly against Gerald McCoy who was really too good for him. Is this aspect of his game on the wane?

Summary: Much better going forward than going back, they’re betting at teeing off on defenders than trying to hold them in check. The problem has been that most of the pressure has come up the middle and that is making life harder than it needs to be for Drew Brees

What to take from this? It's been long thought that the middle is more important than edges in this offense, and that's clearl evident. It's a concern that will haunt us all season. Result? Armstead is our future; bye bye Evans

I think we part ways with Evans and Grubbs this offseason (if that's even economically feasible). I think Lelito takes over at Center and they draft a OG and bring in a cheaper veteran stopgap.

the overall run blocking has been very good...exterior pass blocking pretty good...interior pass blocking abysmal.

I'm hoping a lot of it has to do with a health issue with Goodwin and/or Evans, and it's a lot better after the bye

...also, it's Gerald McCoy in his prime...not too many dominant interior rushers in the league, and we're getting them right now...great test for improvement in two weeks.

Geral McCoy

It's the general consensus that the way to beat brees is interior pass rush so that is where teams attack us.

Evans must be hurt or something. I don't see how someone could regress so much in one year. A slight drop off would be ok, but he's one of the worst guards in the league this year. Atleast we have a left tackle for many years to come. Hopefully Lelito can lock down the center position as well. We should probably draft a guard in the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd round.

McCoy is one of the top interior D-linemen in the game. Things won't be the same for Evans each week.

but it just so happens we play the Lions next who have Suh and Fairley. Bad news.

a few other teams left on the schedule that will probably give our guards problems are the Ravens, Bengals, 49ers, Panthers, and the Bucs again with Gerald McCoy.

Still feels like our running game is under the radar even though it has been stout.

#7 in rushing offense in the league.

and.........

#2 in yards per attempt, only trailing Seattle.

So they've been getting it done there.

pure and simple.

Anyone else kind of want to see us rotating Lelito in more? I feel like he gives us more strength in run blocking.

If the defense would just step up, this team would be undefeated right now. Also, Brees needs to quit with the fricking interceptions, learn to take a sack or throw it out of bounds.

He has a problem with forcing the ball out sometimes for sure. I'm more discouraged by the incompletions that come fluttering out when no one even tips the ball. I'm honestly wondering if he's completely healthy. He's gotten hit hard on a few plays where he was trying to make a play and I'm starting to question whether he's aggravated something and is trying to just play through it. Hopefully he comes out strong after the bye.

If the offense could be more consistent we'd be happily 4-1 right now. Brees' picks have almost costed us 2 games (technically costed us against Cleveland, almost vs. TB).

The whole team right now is a bag of issues and it starts with both of our lines underperforming.

Sadly so true.

Definitely impressed with Armstead. Also, I think Bryce Harris could be very good in the future for replacing Strief eventually. Lelito isn't too shabby either. So yeah, biggest concern is obviously going to be replacing either Grubbs or Evans. Both haven't been playing like the supposed "Pro Bowl" guards they are supposed to be. Eventually once Brees hangs up the cleats we might not need the best guards (we could potentially get a different type of QB). But yeah, we definitely need to address the guards ASAP.

Good call on Harris. If he keeps on improving...he could replace Strief when he's ready to retire. I didn't think about that.

Also Senio Kelemete is a beast in run blocking. He needs to pass block better, but he does have some potential.

Unfortunately this seems to be a problem with the whole offensive line as of late... But I completely agree, Kelemente has a lot of potential. I could see him starting next season with the way things are going.

Exactly. Why pay Grubbs or Evans a few million...when you can pay Kelemete league minimum and get basically the same result.

Because the chance he may or may not pan out, then you lose a former all-pro who could end up upping his play again all for a few million cap space and the same amount in dead money

True. I'd be really surprised if we kept both of them though. We are going to need all the cap space we can get moving forward, especially with JG, DB, and JB's contracts. Plus we need a younger line asap.

That's one possibility...which I agree is possible. I think we will probably cut one of our overpaid guards loose and draft a guard with a high pick. The new guy or Kelemete would then win the job. That's another possibility.

Agreed, as for Strief. His play is the best on our line. Good in both categories and he's on a new contract. He's gonna be with us til at least 2017
