"I love it here. I'm close to my children. I just built a brand new place here," Payton said. "You get tired of answering the questions, and yet I understand you asking. I'll say what I've said before: This is where I see myself, and I've said that for however many years."

Then you either need to focus soley on HC duties or OC duties. You arent doing either well right now, asshat.

Every coach is where they want to be until they leave.

He's saying all the right things, but coach lip service means nothing.

Lane Kiffen and Nick Saban were unavailable for comment.

That said, CSP seems like much less of a shitbird than either of those guys, so I'm tempted to believe him.

But of course even if he's telling the truth today, he could change his mind tomorrow.

I don't know if I necessarily agree with that. He's our coach so I support him but if he coached for another team I'd likely think his career /attitude to date has been pretty shitty.

He's a pretty major shitbird but he's our shitbird and I hope he stays. The dude has careened from one crisis to another like no other coach in the league, if not league history besides Belichick. Every fricking offseason we're in turmoil due to something and he's been a huge part of that.

Having said all that, if he orchestrates a way to walk after cratering this roster and fubaring the salary cap beyond anything I've ever seen, I'm fully prepared to hate his guts

He's just burnt out on Drew Brees as his qb.

I don't think he leaves. The defense and the front office need change. Payton is an offensive mind and a good one at that. I like him, he needs to go back to his aggressive days but I really think he stays. He's one of the top coaches and to be honest there really aren't that many coaches out there that I feel will do better.

That's basically it. Chances are if we hire someone else...he won't be as good of a coach. It's possible, just not very probable at all. The wrong hire could turn us into the Raiders/Jaguars of the last 10 years.

we did this with first round QBs taken since Brees came to town (the success rate was 14%)

Let's do it with coaches. Coaches hired since Payton came to town... success rate?

I am for keeping the status quo and letting the new guy Ireland prove himself.

Indeed.

Let's not make the mistake of running the best coach we've ever had out of town.
