“Each year what we’ve tried to do, honestly, is take our personnel and apply it the best way we see fit to move the football,” Payton said. “So I don’t envision this drastic change, if you will. …

“When we’ve been good, we’ve run the ball. In '09 we ran the ball real well, in '06 we ran the ball real well, and '13, last year. So I don’t see this whole major shift in a certain direction. We’re going to to try to move the football and score. And some weeks it may be running the ball more, some weeks it may be throwing the ball more. That’s just the truth.”

quote:

I don’t think we’re going to make some drastic change and we’re a ‘three yards and a cloud of dust’ offense,” Strief said. “That’s not who we are, that’s not how we’re built. I think the focus this offseason has been, ‘Let’s make sure that guys understand what they need to do to be in position to be successful at what we do.’”

CSP lying his arse off.

Or...I hope he is.

Why would you hope he is?

Seems like a no brainer statement he made

I never thought we were going to go straight ground-n-pound, but I'm hoping we throw a lot less on 2nd and 3 from now on.

The philosophy shouldn't change if the efficiency of the running game improves.

Well only the '09 offense had a top ten rushing attack the other two seasons didn't even have top 16 rushing offenses. In the two 13-3 seasons (09 and '11) the rushing offense was top 8 both years so I hope this years team has more of a run focus.

We ran a lot last year.
It just didn't work that well at times due to personnel.

We should keep to strategy using the new, better personnel.

Yup. Do what we do just do it better and with some better personnel.

A better O-line.
More take aways.
Less trying to do to much in the pocket.
A secondary unit that knows where they are suppose to be.
A more consistent run game.

Considering we've always had a top offense, I don't want to see a major shift. I think what we will see is more Spiller out of the backfield.

Profound. Glad this information was made public. I now feel more informed about the offensive strategy going forward and can't wait for the season to start!
