OT- Sort of...How can Tom Brady and New England not have cap trouble?

I don't understand how they can have a 100 million plus QB and not have the same problems that the Saints have. Amazing how they just keep on keeping on!

Because they don't give in and pay out huge contracts to over valued players.

Because they actually build cheap depth through their drafts unlike the Saints. They usually offload veterans when they're past their prime and don't pay many huge contracts.

They find gems in mid to late rounds every year

Brady's salary isn't guaranteed for skill and injury, just injury only, i.e. he doesn't get his whole salary if he's cut, only if he's injured.
It's a subtle accounting rule that gives them cap flexibility elsewhere. I read about it somewhere and essentially of his $20 million average salary, only $7 million is guaranteed, so there's no big guaranteed money counting against the cap on top of salary.
While Brady and Brees make roughly the same each year, Brees counts about 50% more against the cap because the guaranteed money adds another layer to his cap figure to recognize the $37 million given up front as a guarantee.
Brady is in the midst of a 4-year contract worth $78 million, $28 million guaranteed, versus Brees' 5-year $100 million, $37 million guaranteed.

This is incorrect. It had no impact on the cap at all. He actually received $1 million more
It gave Kraft money out of escrow

because they dont have a frickboy like mickey loomis

Because they're one of the best run teams in the league from top to bottom. They know when to move on from players and they get guys that fit their system, pure and simple. Their offensive line has changed I don't even know how many times this season and it doesn't make a damn difference. Then look at the guys they bring in.
CB Malcolm Butler
LB Jonathan Freeny
S Duron Harmon
CB Logan Ryan
WR Keshawn Martin
DT Akiem Hicks (Whom they got for a backup TE)
Personally, I just think it's all about attitude and a mindset. You go in there and you're part of a winning franchise, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick compete in every phase of the game and I think it just filters on down.

They only hold onto a handful of veterans that get paid. Someone like colston who is a fan favorite here and got a relatively friendly contract at the time would not be someone who the patriots have kept the past few years. They let players like Vereen and ridley, who were staples of their rb Corp walk. We resigned Ingram (good value), but we made the mistake of signing Spiller.

I can remember the days when Mickey was highly praised around here

They let alot of folks due big contracts walk and plug in with their own drafted guys.

Regardless, there's no reason to constantly compare ourselves to the best run team in the NFL.
Belichick is a once-in-a-lifetime find.

People can and do get worse at their jobs. Loomis has too much job security and it really shows in his outlandish decision making as of late. In the real job world and also within the competent Nfl franchises, you don't get to have 3 bad years before you get heat or lose your job. This is the NFL, the hate is warranted when you suck at your job as bad as Loomis has the past 3 years.
Posted on 1/17/16 at 9:11 am to kjanchild
Yeah it is all because we suck at drafting. The Brees contract has never been an issue. All the good QBs in the league get paid.
Posted on 1/17/16 at 9:46 am to kjanchild
Because they don't pay free agents instead they trade rape teams like the Saints.

Maybe I am missing something, but those numbers aren't close to adding up.
