I know its been discussed but hes ready to leave now and the history he has with Spags he might be headed our way. He had 13 sacks his season in Spags system. I know hes older now but still. I say cut Smith and sign him.

Too old. Too expensive (some team like the Raiders will offer him a big contract based on name recognition).

I'd rather have Avril or Michael Johnson. Not to mention all the DEs available in the draft.

No. This defense needs new, young, hungry talent to get after the opposition like a crazed rabies infected wild dog. Cujo style. If he was 27-28 maybe. If he comes in on bottom dollar, I'm down. I don't want to spend what little room we have for 30- something name brand players. We need to try and build a quality defense for the mid term of 4-6 years.

I could see him if he wanted to take a discount to stay in Spags system, and it would give a first round pick DE time to mature into the NFL and not have to produce day one.

If he's willing to play for less, I'd love to have him. We could use him in the same way that Atlanta uses Abraham. Just bring him in on passing downs or crucial 3rd downs and let him rush the passer, keeping him fresh.

"Same age as Will"

You only read what you wanted to. Suntiger said, Too old. Too Expensive. He clarified he wouldn't want to pay what Osi is probably going to want especially at his age. If he's willing to play for less, fine.

Will Smith isn't a good example, either. Smith skills are continually declining at his age. So saying Smith and Osi are the same age doesn't really make it more appealing.

He's not old and deserves the most money. Again, doesn't fall under too old. Too Expensive. Just expensive.

You really need to work on your reading comprehension skills. I was saying to cut Smith to pick up Osi which is the reason I said hes the same age. Let me help you out here if we are paying a 31 year old Smith we could probably cut him and get Osi cheaper. Avril is gonna want more than any DE FA out there and is gonna be too high priced for us. Now before you start trying come down on me you need to learn to read.

Oh lawd, everybody knows Smith will be getting cut. Im pretty sure he was clarifying he doesn't want to bring in an old Osi for the price we would have to pay, even after cutting Smith.

Most ppl will take Osi on the cheap, but i don't anybody thinks he's coming cheap. Unless there is no market for him or he plans on taken a 1 yr deal. Therefore, he said too old, too expensive.

Like I said, Too old.

Avril didn't have the year he did last year and probably won't cost as much as last year. But yeah, you have to pay for good players.

We cannot compete with the other 31 teams for any DE that is above average IMO. Good to excellent ends are at a premium in the NFL.
A good to excellent end will have to be found in the draft. If there were no other major needs I would think we could compete but left OT, possibly two OLB's and upgrades at safties seem to be on our shopping list as well.

If we cut Will Smith and rework deals with Vilma and Harper, we should have enough money to sign Graham and make one defensive FA signing.

I still think that Osi is going to get a big contract from somebody. Similar to Warren Sapp with the Raiders or Bruce Smith with the Redskins. He's a big name from a big market and I think someone will overpay IMO.

I don't think Michael Johnson will be too expensive. That would be the guy I'd go after first. He won't be getting franchise type money. Avril will be expensive, but he had a down year so I think he will likely cost about the same as Osi.

It will be interesting this year. There are some good DEs in FA and in the draft. I honestly wouldn't mind getting a guy like Mingo or Hunt who are not everydown DEs yet and keeping Smith on a reworked deal to let them rotate.

From what I've seen so far, there are some FA safties (William Moore at the top of my list) and some safties in the draft. I don't see a lot of OLBers in FA or the draft though.

My ideal scenerio (subject to change):
- Sign Moore in FA let Harper go.
- Rework deal with Smith and draft Mingo and let them split time.
- Rework deal with Vilma and maybe sign somebody cheap like Shaun Phillips for the other OLB.

Agree except about Mingo. Avoid LSU's DEs.
