4th Rd pick outperforming the #30 overall with the Panthers. We're all praying Fairley has the heart to play. If he doesn't, this kid showed a lot when you understand how incredibly raw as a prospect that he was. Dude had never seen a football game until he went to Canada in 2011.

Two threads in one day?

Pump the brakes young man. Go back to enjoying your tropical view in your backyard.

I'm excited about Onyamomma. I think he has a ton of potential and could develop into a great player. He could also end up being nothing. Fingers crossed it's the former.

I thought the fact that it was taking so long meant he'd be coming back. Its ok though. Still have enough talent on the D line as long as one unknown really shows up. I think Okafor will be that guy

So he was third in pass rush productivity?

Among interior defensive linemen?

Among rookie interior defensive linemen?

Among rookie interior defensive linemen in weeks 12-17?

That Cam Jordan interview said he is picking things up at a very fast pace.

Truthfully, I think we're not going to be too much worse off without Fairley.

Doubly so if we make a move.

Exactly. Once again we are taking licks this year and I'm sure we will til the end of time. But as long as they keep adding more talent, all over the defense, these injuries aren't as devastating. We more or less missed Rankins last year. This year hopefully we have Rankins healthy and it's a 1 for 1 trade.

You look at what we've lost on defense: Nick Fairley, Byrd

We've added: Williams, Lattimore, Okafor, Kikaha, McDaniel, Williams, Klein, Swann, Bush, Anzalone, Hendrickson, Teo, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some others.

We could lose a couple more key guys and I'd say the defense got a lot more talented this offseason. I mean our defense was THIN last year.

Vernon Butler isn't a very good comparison in my opinion. He was a hell of a reach in the 1st round. I was shocked when they called his name that high.

He was pretty much projected first round by nearly every draft analyst. No one had him dropping past 2nd part of second round.

That said I love the production from Onyamama last year, but starting is a different story. I saw him in the Anthony Hargrove roll to be a solid rotational player. But it's the NFL next man up. I really think Fairley is the biggest loss of this season. We had banked on creating pressure up the middle with this team I'm hoping like hell he steps up.

Yeah, but he was the best overall rookie interior defensive linemen in weeks 12-17 named Onyemata

I thought he showed potential last year when he played

I could see Onyemata potentially starting at DE, then moving inside during passing situations. Davison would come out of the game & a pass rushing DE would enter the game in that situation. Hopefully Okafor can hold up against the run and it doesn't come to that though. It would be nice if Rankins & Okafor could be 3 down players this year.

Either way, Onyemata & Rankins will be in the game on passing downs at DT. Davison & McDaniel are pretty much run stuffers, & both will be on the field in running situations unless Rankins proves he can consistently stop the run. We have the players to make it work without Fairley...we just have to do some subbing & shuffling around to get it done. If Rankins takes a big step forward this year, then the loss of Fairley won't be nearly as hard to make up for.

This came across my news feed this morning. Immediately I thought "Friggin Johnson and Vitt..." I'm injecting a shot of hope this morning. We might end up a full player better in performance from the coaching changes. Onyamomma might be the perfect parallel to Hicks. Besides opportunity, here's another plus factor to see this raw prospect develop quicker or better.

Onyamomma is a perfect name, really. I don't think I can ever call him anything different from this moment on.

If Onyamomma and Analzone ever combine for a sack it will be up there with the Superbowl win as favorite Saints moment ever.

I could be wrong, but I think he played out his contract the same year that we traded him to the Pats. He signed with the Bears as a F.A. the following year.

That's why we gave him away for just Hooman, b/c we had no plans on re-signing him. Hooman has been a productive player for us, but he wasn't even playing on gamedays for the Pats.
