Glad the Saints beat the 49ers ... but, watched the video over and over again ... and watched ESPN's panel in that link.
Agree with Ray Lewis (a first for me), Steve Young, and Trent Dilfer.
Everything they said is correct.
The conclusion is basically: it's a BS call, but that's the way the league wants it ... and there is not a damn thing that a defender can do about it.
IMO, the fine is just an insult. I don't blame Brooks for being absolutely frustrated and pissed.
Y'all damn well know that if the situation were reversed and Kaepernick had been hit, fumbled ... but then instead, for that same hit ... a Saints player had been flagged then fined then Saints lost game ... you'd be furious. And to say otherwise is just dishonest.
The game is changing right before our eyes.

I would be furious, but I'd be mad at our player for screwing up an otherwise great play. If he didn't know it was a penalty, then I'd be made at the coaching staff.
Brees was standing still. He didn't see it coming. He didn't duck down at the last second. Brooks had a clear shot for him and he went high. That's on him, and whatever resulted from it, intentional or not. I don't have any sympathy for him, although I didn't think the fine was necessary.

This, and I don't like it. But I will not lose one seconds sleep over a correct implementation of the rules as they are written today. As a longtime Saints fan, I have sat through too many screw jobs to feel bad for anyone else, particularly the 49ers.
The same people howling the loudest are the ones who are leading the charge to protect players and for the NFL to accept responsibility for past head tramas.
You can't have it both ways... Well, apparently some can try (ESPN).

There are a only a handful of QBs in the league for which that flag is even thrown.

The hit against Brees? No. That type of hit will get flagged every time.

Eh, conveniently not when your last name is Manning, Brady, Brees or Rodgers though. Not the Saints fault, obviously, just feel as if there's no consistency in the calls and sometimes after the first 8 games, the remaining games start to feel pre-determined.
Brees got hit in the head twice against the Texans with no calls in 2011. One was a legit spearing too.
It is going to be a lot easier to call when you have the neck/helmet the entire way down.
Wanna bet he gets fined?

Yeah, I'd say it will probably be around a $16K fine.....

If Harbaugh continues to bitch enough about it maybe Goodell will overturn the ruling on the field?
The video evidence of that hit was worse than anything they ever had regarding BountyGate in New Orleans.
