We came into this season a very incomplete team and were quickly 0-3, but if you don't think things are trending up, we're now the 4th least penalized team in the league, and have recorded 11 sacks in the last 3 games. We're also beginning to force turnovers, and have rediscovered a running game.
I know we've crawled back after slow starts before only to fall short, and will certainly have a hard time getting into the playoffs this year but, this is the best we've looked in a while. Thumbs up to the coaches and of course players for staying with it. We're playing like a top 10 team for the first time in several years.

Nothing to disagree or foam at the mouth about in that post.

The Offense looks like a bonafide Ferrari again not just Drew going all Dukes of Hazard in a dune buggy.

The defense for the first time in several years is functional and trending up.

Special Teams is a work in progress but we have our first post Hartley kicker that I actually like and think could be the guy going forward.

All in all 2017 is shaping up to be a special year and I am still hoping for a wild finish to this season.

This season thus far shows the 'rebuild' is doing well. It's unfortunate we dug ourselves in a hole so many times this season, but there's still hope we can somehow pull it off and make a serious fight.

2010 chargers were done in by special teams, but we won't lose any major contributors in the offseason, will have money to add contributors, and majority of our big time players are still young. If health and depth improve, we can definitely be a lot better next year

Yeah, they really wrecked Carolina and Denver.

My favorite thing about the NFL is that is does not take long to turn a team around.

I mean EVERY season in the NFC South you see a team go from 1st to Worst and visa versa.

We are showing that we can put together a team. We really are 1-2 players away on defense, but Im not ruling us out for this season. Mainly because the league seems so...even...this year. Drew gives us a chance against everyone.

Here's to making a run ala the G-men of '12!

Great Post!

I have been excited to see the second half adjustment being made in game as of late. That is something that this coaching staff was REALLY STRUGGLING with earlier in the season.
I have also noticed that CSP has been coaching with more fire over the past month or so. He definitely appeared flat coming out of the gate, but he has been looking like his old self as of late. His renewed commitment to the running game has been a shot in the arm to this team as well. We will never be a "running team" but the threat of a running game has forced defenses to respect it, and it forces the LBers and Safeties to play down hill a little more.
I am still concerned that the 0-3 start may be too much to overcome in terms of making the postseason, but I definitely feel better about retaining this coaching staff going into next season.

Don't tell anybody BUT the 2016 Saints have started to "gel" and, you know what? They will be a very good football team when they DO gel.

ETA on completion of "gel": 2016 or NLT September 2017.

Constraints: NFC South is very competitive and it is VERY difficult to get a win against a division foe.

Sorry, we've seen this same movie too many times since 2007 for me to buy in. I'll reserve optimism until we actually make it over .500.

I'd also challenge someone to actually address what I said. Where was this dynamic offense in Carolina or vs. Denver?

This post works if your expectations for this year were where they should have been. I like the emotions this type of mentality secretes but I fear we are due for yet another .500 year under SP with another mediocre draft as the reward.

GEAUX SAINTS

Hope the playoffs are in the future.

We faced Denver one of/if not the best pass rushing team in the NFL without our best offensive lineman.

a rookie made some game changing rookie mistakes.

Even still this offense put this team in a position to win even after committing 4 turnovers.

Sucks that what should have been an easy make go ahead FG turned into the white shoe debacle that it did but it is what it is.

To be honest I thought the offense was no different that game against that great defense outside of not taking care of the ball in that game.

I'd also like to challenge someone to find the someone who said our offense was "dynamic" against those two.

I'd also like to challenge someone to find a NFL team that had a "dynamic" offense that was "dynamic" every game they ever played while being "dynamic" on the offense.

If we could just field the same offense every week we would be good, you never know if it's going to be four 3 and outs or four TDs

I would have believed you if we hadn't lost both of our games after clawing back to 4-4.

Face it, this happens almost every year, there's a pattern:
Lose the first few games
Win the next few to get to 4-4
Immediately lose 2 straight
Look amazing to get back to .500
Lose 3/4 and miss the playoffs while also getting a shitty draft pick

Hopefully, they break this mold, but I'm not holding my breath.

I honestly believe that we are going to win the Super Bowl if we can sneak into the playoffs.

Saints do have a point differential of +27

Lions are 7-4 and they are +9

This is a much more competitive team than last year, just really shitty luck. I do not think they'll run the table, but they are absolutely capable of beating anyone. I'm guessing they'll be 8-8, but I am hoping for the best obviously. Not a bad season at all, considering what we expected after watching them during the pre season.
