They just had a segement on NFL access with Warren Sapp, Ladainian Tomlimson and Brian Bilik

The question was posed are the 5-0 Saints the best team in the NFC? I know other Saints fans like myself think that the team is very good this season with the only major weakness being a lack of a running game and sub par O line play which in my opinion cant make the Saints a definitive number one team just yet.

Well LT and Warren Sapp both said that New Orleans is not the best team in the NFC because they cant dominate both lines of scrimmage. Specifically the defensive line. LT even said that we lost our "BEST" defensive player in Will Smith. They went on to say that we are not getting pressure with our front four and are having to come up blitz packages to compensate for our lack of a good d line.

I know that Warren Sapp may not be the most well liked former player but LT seems to be a reasonably intelligent dude and should be well versed on the current NFL. Have they not watched a single Saints game all season and only saw Malcolm Jenkins sack fumble and assumed that is how we are getting pressure?

I don't normally bitch about TV people slighting my favorite teams but this observation was just so asinine. Neither one of them even mentioned the fact that The Saints have been piss poor in rushing offense. If anything the Defensive Line has been the teams biggest strength when some other areas were sputtering earlier in the season.

How the frick can two paid analyst be so ill informed.

Cameron Jordan has 17 total tackles 4 Sacks and a fumble recovery. He is 2nd in sack total for defensive lineman (tied with Ware, Ayers) and 1 Forced Fumble

John Jenkins has 10 total tackles

Hicks has 5 Tackles to go along with 1 sack

Walker has 4 tackles and 1 sack

Foster has 2 tackles and 1 sack

Beyond the stats this line is hurrying QB's week in and week out. They have been physical, aggressive and without a doubt one of the best units in all of the NFL

I saw it, too. Sapp is always wrong but LT was so off on everything he said. He tried to imply that the Seahawks were more complete on offense, defense and special teams before talking about the New Orleans defensive line like he was describing some bizarro universe Saints.

pretty sad

D line is easily the best part of this defense IMO

They been able to get pressure with 4 guys all year. These guys clearly haven't watched a game all year. I truly believe our success has started and ended with the fact that we can provide a great pass rush...mainly due to Jordan and Galette.

If they at least made a decent argument, then fine...but this is stupid

I watched the same thing and couldn't help to shake my head and smile.

The only one who was even close was Bilik. He said it would come down to home field advantage, and I can't fault that logic.

Seriously though "lost their best defensive player, Will Smith"

Yeah...this is like when we "lost" Reggie Bush right?

I would love to hear their commentary on LSU this season.

"LSU is ok on offense this year but they need better play from their Wide Receiver's."

"Since they lost their best player in TE Nic Jacob's, the Tigers have to do creative things to get the ball downfield"

I was listening to it on radio in grocery store parking lot, had to walk in the store laughing. Sapp is a bumbling idiot, who could quite possibly take speach lessons from Holtz. No pressure from the front 4, do these guys even review game film befoee commenting? ? Use our running game as an excuse, as some of the more iintellectual sports personalities have, but that idiot just talks out of his arse. Sapp is a joke.

what in your mind is a "real" offense?

Bears have scored:

24, 31, 40, 32, and 18

Falcons have scored:

17, 31, 23, 23, plus 7 so far tonight ( )

Cards have scored:

24, 25, 7, 13, and 22

Dolphins have scored:

23, 24, 27, 17, and 23

and Finally the Bucs have scored:

17, 14, 3, and 10

With the exception of the Bucs (who are an absolute dumpster fire), every team we have played has put up respectable scores in almost every other game they have played, and has had their lowest scoring game against us (again, 7 of the Bucs points came off of a pick 6)

Your insinuation that our defensive performance thus far has been somehow inflated by playing sub par offenses is just plain untrue.

Moral of this story is ex-athletes are mostly morons when it comes to being television analysts. Intelligent non-jocks who actually watch every game and view the league through statistical and non-biased lenses are much more informative. Ex-jocks are lazy and don't keep up with the current happenings of all 32 teams, tending to rely on stereotypes and misconceptions. Especially in this case, defensive tackle, Sapp, and RB, Tomlinson, require the least intelligence of almost any position on the field. Same reason star players usually make bad coaches, they can't translate what they did to what other players/teams do bc how they played was so instinctual

Yeah the vast majority of talking heads only know what the producer told them in the commercial break.

The reason bloggers tend to be more sensical with their reasoning is because they are smart enough to look up and interpret the numbers available to pretty much any human on earth with an internet connection.

Retired players that have "analyst" jobs on these shows rely on things like "grit", "effort", "coaching up", and "chemistry". Stuff that basically means nothing at all and can't be quantified.

ETA: The guys on these shows also have to "analyze" the entire NFL. They can't really focus on one team. But they could at least do some research.

It's because 90% of these people don't actually watch the games, this is evidenced by Will Smith and Vilma being mentioned so much

It's not bloggers vs. talking heads, it's national vs. regional/local. It's just impossible to be as knowledgeable about every team in the league as we are about our team. The national guys are giving you their interpretation of the Cliff's Notes, which often can be completely wrong, or even if it's right, it's right for the wrong reasons like in this case saying the line is the weakness but faulting the DLine rather than the OLine.

But even I know the Falcons suck because they can't protect Matt Ryan and their defensive line can't create a push. Not because Steven Jackson is hurt and they miss John Abraham, which would be something the talking head knuckleheads would say.
