All around, the team should be proud, although the 2nd team offense should commit hari kari.

Cadet shouldn't make the team. IMO Robinson is much better.

Looks like SP got a lot of what he wanted "cleaned up" cleaned up, especially the tempo on both sides of the ball.

Great second preseason game, you guys.

But next week, I'll resume game thread responsibilities; and we'll have ourselves a real game.

This was the most impressive thing to me. I was little cautiously nervous after that first game, but man, Payton's got shite tight and smooth again. So damn good to have him back.
The game to game adjustments of his is one of the best in the entire game.

Obviously we should all take the performance with a grain of salt for two reasons. 1 it's preseason and 2 it's the raiders. That said, both sides of the ball looked damn impressive. The defense absolutely dominated, and that's the marque (Marques?) of a good team, one who can truly step on the neck of an inferior opponent instead of playing down to their level. Excited for next week!

I disagree. if you're an elite team, you dominate teams you're supposed to. And both sides of the ball dominated. Up until that final Raiders drive, it was 20-0 with our defense only allowing 48 total yards to their first team. All the while we didn't have Galette, Wilson, Lofton, or Prob on the field.
I think next week will be a more true test against the Texans, but man, I haven't been this excited to see our defense continue to grow and develop in awhile. Our D-line has been great to see. There's so much new/second year talent growing into their roles and developing.

I think you agree with me more than you realize. Read the rest of my post, we made essentially the same point.

I will say though, that we might recall a certain game against the 49ers in the preseason of 2011 where our defense looked exactly like it did last night, only to come back down to reality during the regular season.

Not trying to piss in the cheerios, just saying we should be *cautiously* optimistic. If they look the same against the Texans...put the champagne on ice because Lombardi # 2 is on the way.

What? we went 13-3 in 2011...our regular season D was ranked in the top 5 for total D in the league.

It was simply a fluke season in that we ended up with the 3rd seed in conference.

One of those losses was the Browns or Rams or both...(due to mass consumption of alcohol on those nights i cant remember if that was the same season) those were losses due to the offensive line...

if your talking about the final drive against the 49ers I can agree they choked in the clutch but also refer to turnovers on the road i think we had 4. to even be in that game much less winning in the 4th was quite the accomplishment.

All I am saying is I will take a top 15 unit with this bunch all day much less a top 5 with Vacarro in coverage to tackle Vernon.
