1st Round #11 - Derek Barnett(DE)
Biggest position of need & he's the safest pick available at this position imo. Some other guys have a higher ceiling, but are much more of a risk imo. I think his floor is a legit starter for us. If he's gone at our pick...I'd take Reddick or hope that Hooker falls to us.

1st Round #32 - Garett Bolles(OT)

Technically, I'd take him, Ramczyk, or Cam Robinson right here. There is a huge drop off after these guys, & one of these guys seem like a much safer bet to successfully acquire our 2018 starting RT than a guy in the 3rd round. It would be very unfortunate if this position isn't solidified in 2018.

2nd Round #42 - Chidobe Awuzie(CB)

I'd rather Tre White or Gareon Conley falling to 42, but I doubt that happens. Fabian Moreau would be a decent pick too, & there are a few other options at CB here as well.

3rd Round #76 - Marcus Williams(FS)

He's exactly the kind of Safety that we need with this current roster. He can be trusted to play centerfield for us. I'd run to the podium if he's here at 73. Other good options should be available at Safety in the 3rd, but he's easily my favorite.

3rd Round #103 - Jeremy McNichols(RB)

3 down RB. Seems to have everything we're looking for as our #2 RB, & he can eventually develop into a starter. The only thing that concerns me about him is his fumbling issues.

6th Round #196 - Top rated WR on our board

I haven't done any research on WR's that are supposed to be available here, so I'm not going to waste anyone's time.

7th Round #229 - Colin Jeter(TE)

I've watched every game he's played in at LSU. He's a complete TE & is pretty underrated imo. I'd say his biggest weakness is lack of top end speed, but he ran a 4.75 at LSU's Pro Day. 6'6" 251 lbs. He'd be great to stash on the practice squad imo.

Why not take White at 32?

I'd like to. I'd just rather lock down one of those top 3 OT's, then take a CB at 42. Plenty of good options at 42 for CB(White or Conley might even fall to that pick). The options for OT get very questionable after the 1st 3 guys are off the board.

I wouldn't complain if we went Cb there...I'm just trying to fill our needs with legit players at the best value.

CB is loaded in the 2nd...RB & Safety are loaded in the 3rd. OT is only loaded in the late 1st round. Most drafts have a much better crop of OT's(there aren't even any OT's with a 2nd round grade). Teams also reach for OT's & we'd be fortunate to have 1 of these guys fall to us imo.

I wouldn't take an OT in the 1st round just because "there's a huge drop off after those three". Our line was pretty effective last year, I don't see the need to address it in the first round this year. We can get by with what we have for this year, and hopefully add someone to it later in the draft.

People who draft for needs, like the SaintsNews writers, normally come out with crappy looking drafts. I'm not a fan of anything about this draft, other than Barnett at 11. We can do much better, hopefully once the cards shake, with picks 32 - 103. IMO.

You'll be singing a different tune if our 3rd round(some people even want to wait until the 6th round) project OT doesn't pan out for 2018. A 2nd year bust starting at RT would be very unfortunate to say the least.

I wouldn't mind just using free agency to sign a starting RT next year, but CSP doesn't seem to want to take that approach.

I really feel like it is Bolles, Lamp, Ramczyk, or Robinson at pick 32/42 or we don't draft an OL. Whoever we draft need to be able to start next year. Armstead/Peat/Unger/Warford/Robinson is a really nice OL

Yep. The more I think about it...the more it seems like the smart move.

I wouldn't even consider it if the 2nd/3rd round wasn't so loaded at our other positions of need. The objective is to put yourself in the best position to hit on all your picks.

I don't know enough ahout the players to be happy with this or not.

Would love Barnett at 11 though.

I'll add my self to that group. I agree with you that we shouldn't take one in the 2nd or 3rd. But I don't like it in the 1st either. We've hit on olineman later in drafts before, we can do it again. I would have no problem using the 6th rounder on one that's a project player. Wouldn't waste a 2nd or 3rd for the same type of project player though.

looks like a pretty reasonable mock to me, but .....

my only thing I disagree with is the RB at #103, I don't think its that pressing of a need right now and I would not change the rest of your position picks, just bump them up a round higher and BPA at those positions then.

we can grab a nice work horse RB in the 7th or even undrafted

That's a great draft. I'm not too familiar with McNichols, but your first 4 guys would be a dream haul for the Saints.

I don't even think Jeter will get drafted, but he will be a top UDFA to be signed in a hurry I think, but I would like to know info about his teammate D Smith. I haven't heard anything about that kid since LSU's season ended, he wasn't at the NFL combine or played in any senior bowl games. Is he hurt?? That kid is seriously underrated imo as he has awesome pass catching potential for a TE that was hardly used in his LSU career.
