But literally 1 pressure, man.

I should have said 1 sack not a hurry. How overrated is a hurry anyway? We had a bunch of hurries against ATL and Ryan just steps up in the box and throws for 450 yards against us.

Glennon had several plays where the pressure forced the ball out and was inaccurate. A big 3rd and long at the end of the game comes to mind.

But you are right, our edge rush would be way more effective if our interior didn't suck

this is a huge problem. Jenkins finally made a play yesterday, but his lazy offseason and play have resulted in his demotion. That is a critical factor that is hurting this defense. Too many times I am watching our DTs get pushed backwards 2-3 yards on run plays

Lofton

...has been the only consistent linebacker we've had since his signing. Early signs this year seem to point to the same thing, so not sure where you are going with this.

you apparently haven't watched is pass coverage the past few years. He is a good run defender, but his speed and awareness in the pass game is no bueno.

Colston (he's done)
Evans (I think he hasn't been very good the last 2 years)
Grubs
Lofton (though I've never considered him any good)
Payton (yes, that one. he is becoming a caricature of himself at this point)

Agree with these except Lofton. With the caveat that he's grade B run stuffer and a solid D in coverage.
Add:
The entire LB corp could be dumped cept Lofton and I wouldn't bat an eye

That's why so many of us were high on CJ Mosley going into the draft. The guy is/was a solid linebacker that could anchor that middle spot for a decade. I'm not sure on his PFF stats, Hoodoo could probably grab it.

Look at his stats this year:
49 tackles (29 solo)
1 INT
1 FF
5 PD

Too bad he was picked at 17.

We need someone that can put up numbers like that. For all that Lofton can do as a solid run stopper, he needs a partner that can be a great pass defender. Look at Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis, Lavonte David and Mason Foster (before his injury this year).

Ranked #2 overall. Struggled in pass coverage in the 1st 2 games, but has turned the corner since then.

#1 against the run, 23rd in coverage, 5th in pass rush

crazy to think he could be 23rd in coverage, but he's still the #2 rated overall haha

This sums up my thinking regarding Lofton. He isn't bad, he just isn't very good. I like how he plays the run, but he is too much a hindrance in the pass game. Plus he isn't really a play/difference maker. Solid player that requires great players around him in order to mask his weaknesses.

Yep, and he started the season at -0.7 and -2.7.

Last 3 games have been +1, +1.1, and +1.4. He was +4.6 against the run vs Carolina
