SI's article names Cam Jordan most overpaid DL in NFL.

After fielding one of the league’s worst defenses last season, the Saints were desperate to upgrade that side of the ball during the off-season. But they might have reached in locking up Cameron Jordan, one of their few bright spots on defense, for five years and $55 million earlier this month.

Jordan has been a fine player since he was drafted in the first round by New Orleans in 2011, compiling 28 sacks and 150 tackles. But he’s no more than a league-average guy who will now be paid $36 million over the next three years. As NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal points out, that’s basically starting quarterback money.

The move was especially surprising since the Saints extended their other tweener in Junior Galette for four years and $41.5 million before the start of the 2014 season. Galette lived up to the pay raise, as PFF ranked him as the fourth-best 4–3 defensive end in the league last year, while Jordan ranked 29th out of the 59 qualifying players.

Have one of the worst defenses in the league. Don't pay one of your only good players, makes sense.

$36m over 3 years... So an average of $12m a year... That's QB $$$? Damn, just about every team is overpaying for their QB then. $12m a year would be 19th highest paid QB. Not really what I would call "QB money".

And I love how they only focus on what Jordan did in 2014 and act like he was horrible. It wasn't as good as his 2013 season, but he still was very solid and was on a horrible D. He was still t-12th in sacks at his position, t-9th in QB hurries, t-8th in tackles, and 7th in stops. That's after his All Pro season in 2013.

And Cam Jordan will be improved as well, along with our entire D. And I'm not even a huge Cam Jordan fan or anything like that. But that article is horrible.

that is a lot of money but the fact is Jordan is a pretty good all around player.

what the hell? Guy needs to make up his mind.

Jordan is big enough to anchor vs. the run and he's pretty good rushing the passer. He might have had somewhat of a down year in 2014 rushing the passer but still, he's a versatile player.

i sort of agree about the money but to call him a league average player is a pretty uneducated thing to say.

The article is called "Buyer's Remorse". How can it be buyer's remorse when we just extended him this season. We have yet to see if it would be buyer's remorse or if they have a great eye.

extended their other tweener

They lost all credibility with this comment. He is no where near a tweener. They claim he's ranked 29th amongst DEs; but I'd bet he's one of the higher rated every down DE.

And NFL players named him one of the top 100 in the league after 2013. I think competent secondary play will help Jordan play closer to his 2013 self. Even if he plays right between his 2013/2014 self, it's not a bad deal. Return to 2013 form and it's a good one with the cap continuing to explode.

A shitty starting qb in today's league.

I don't get this comparison. Is Jordan a tweener lb/de?

Does 4-3 defensive end really describe him best? I don't know.

Article may be right in saying that Jordan was a bad signing, but the reasoning seems stupid to me. Basing things off of stuff that isn't really reality.

He will most definitely stank the rest of his career now that he has gotten paid. I dont know why that happens everytime we pay a defensive player.

Maybe under a rookie contract, he would be correct. $12M in 2015 almost gets you Sam Bradford or Newton (both at or around $13M). Would give you Dalton, Luck, RG3, Wilson, etc w/ room to spare.

What's he's probably looking at is Brady's contract has been worked over so many times that his average salary is $11.4M over the life of the contract. But, anyone around sports knows that's more of an anomaly.
