Frick a lot of people have us taking Eli Harold and I just don't like the kid. Screams bust to me. Just so many better players at other positions of need at 31 and 44

The simulator let's all kinds of people drop. Not really realistic rankings, thus the people that everyone is drafting.

Just like Beasley, hes not going to be there at 13.

I did a 3 round draft. Here are the results.

Round 1 pick 13 - Danny Shelton DT
Round 1 pick 31 - Shane Ray DE
Round 2 pick 44 Tre' Jackson OG
Round 3 pick 75 Shaq Thompson OLB
Round 3 pick 78 Paul Dawson ILB

No way it falls anywhere close to this in a real draft but it would be nice.

I just don't think we wait until the 2nd round to take an offensive lineman. We can't afford to frick that up since Grubbs is gone.

I want WR at 31 but I doubt it happens. Probably more like a 4th. And 31st-3 round is straight defense

Its really hard to guess at what they are going to do this year because of the change in philosophy that they are obviously trying to implement this year. I agree though about the guard spot, I think we address it with the first pick. If Scherff and Collins are both gone it gets really scary. When the first one goes we may actually move up to take the other one.

Agreed. He's the definition of a project, but he doesn't have the size, length or athleticism a project like Ziggy Ansah had. Can he develop into a fine player under the right coaching and time? Sure. Do I feel like we should waste our time with that? No.

I heard harold had very good athleticism

quote:

If the Saints don't draft a pass rusher at No. 13, ESPN's Kevin Weidl thinks Virginia DE/OLB Eli Harold will appeal to them at No. 31. The analyst is discussing the pick New Orleans acquired in the Jimmy Graham trade with the Saints. "This may be a little early for Harold, but with edge-rushers such as Beasley, Nebraska's Randy Gregory, Florida's Dante Fowler and Missouri's Shane Ray all likely off the board, he is next in line," Weidl wrote. "He has the developmental upside as a rusher that makes him worthy of taking a chance on in the late first round. While he needs to continue to get stronger, Harold has a lot of natural tools as an edge-rusher. He displays above-average first-step quickness and good torso flexibility bending the edge and flashes some savvy abilities both in working his opponents and maneuvering his pads to get skinny and slip through tight creases." Harold (6-foot-3 and 247 pounds), who will be 21 as a rookie, ran a 1.56 10-yard split on his 4.60 forty at the combine.

quote:

Virginia DE/OLB Eli Harold "is held in high regard," noted the National Football Post's Greg Gabriel, "in NFL draft rooms around the country." "Harold is a very solid high second round pick, but some teams must be considering that with his age and upside, is he worth taking in the first?" Gabriel wrote. Harold (6-foot-3 and 247 pounds) has great size for a 3-4 outside linebacker, and he'll be only 21 years old as a rookie. In addition, his combine numbers were sensational, where he finished 4.6, 1.56 and 4.16 in the 40-yard dash, the 10-yard split and the short shuttle, respectively. "Where Harold needs to improve is with his ability to shed blocks in the run game. Better technique and added strength in the upper body will help achieve that," Gabriel wrote.

I never said he wasn't athletic. I meant he didn't have as good a combo as past project players did. If you watch his tape, it's very uninspiring, at least to me. Continually stonewalled, and doesn't really have any arsenal of pass rushing moves. I will give it to him, the kid never quits and has a high motor, as well as his athleticism.

Like I said I do think he can become a productive player one day with the right coaching, I'm just not sure if that's an undertaking we should be taking on. Especially with greater areas of need that early.
