I'm still in disbelief he left New Orleans only to take on that 5 alarm dumpster fire in Denver. It has to be one of the all time worst business decisions, ever! Saints undeniably have superior roster from top to bottom, with much easier path to Super Bowl. Not to mention the liberties he had within the organization to essentially do whatever he wanted. I'm almost certain that if he played his cards right that Gail may have even given him a little stake in the organization.

I have to say, it brings me great joy to see him bombing there in Denver, and with Wilsons insane contract I don't see him righting the ship any time soon.

He wanted San Diego or Dallas, but couldnt wait any longer and got impatient and took a dogshit job with a dogshit QB.

He'll be fired in 2 or 3 years.

I can guarantee you, Payton doesn't have the freedom in Denver that he had in New Orleans.

I am 100% fine with him leaving. It was getting stale and probably best for everyone.

I am not fine with what we did afterwards

Correct. We could have traded him for draft picks.

This is why I wish him the worst in his NFL coaching endeavors. Not because he left and decided to coach elsewhere but because he did it in the worst possible manner. That results in me remembering he refused to try to find a replacement for Brees in any sort of reasonable fashion and compounds my angst toward SP.

But at least he didn't go to the Falcons.

On one hand I don't blame him for wanting out of NO, per se. But, he absolutely wasn't genuine at all with the way he exited. He wanted to go out a hero who was burned out and didn't want any hard feelings but he clearly wanted to coach elsewhere and he should have just said that.

He had it made here. I know it is a shite city and his wife hated it blah blah blah, but he was king and would have controlled his legacy and destiny. Going to Denver is a typical, irrational, low patience Sean Payton move that he has become famous for over the years. He will quit when the going gets tough after he realizes he can't win there.

My point exactly, he more than likely will never find a situation as good as what he had here.

What I find interesting is one of the biggest issues with him was he wasted so many of Brees' prime years with dogshit defenses. He then goes to a team with a recent history of being an above average defense (with an elite year sprinkled in), and so far he has them dead last.

Not to mention he just didn't feel like sticking around for the salary cap hell he created. I understand and agree with why we did it....but it was still a mess that he and management created so he should have stayed through it.

Yeah he should’ve rotted away in New Orleans lol . I think it was bigger than football. You leave your car for 5 minutes in New Orleans you more than likely will have a busted window

Burned out in New Orleans and new wife didn’t want to be here. Denver gig will be short-lived.

He forced the Saints hand contacting Miami about the job. He did it to himself like Custer riding straight into the largest Indian encampment in US history.
He got what he deserved.

Hmm? Living in Denver vs living in New Orleans? That's easily no contest.

He's also the second highest paid coach not only in the NFL but in all of sports behind Bill Belichick. You can say what you want about him or his decision personally, but it actually was a pretty good decision in terms of business.

I’m thankful to Payton for the SB and the best run in the history of the franchise. He deserves credit. But, he wasted a good portion of Brees’s prime with no defense and he made terrible game day decisions. The NFC Championship against the Rams never should have come down to what happened. We should have blown their doors off.

So, while I’m glad for what he did, it’s altogether possible the game has passed him by, just like it has for Belichik.
