If we don't snag a WR in the first round Id rather us not take one at all. Dorsett and Devin Smith just aren't going to be good NFL WRs. They only know 1 route and you can't just have speed in the NFL.
That's just simply not true all around. If either are there at pick 44 they are a steal. Both are superb athletes and have an amazing ability to track the ball. Dorestt ran a lot of crossing routes whether deep post or drags across the field. In his post routes, you can see him push up the field and get the DBs hips turned than uses his elite speed to plant and accelerate past defenders. There aren't many people on the planet that will be able to flip there hips back and keep up with that dude. He is more than a track star that can run down a go route.
Devin Smith also is a damn wizard at tracking the ball down. Go back and watch his tape and see how many poorly thrown balls he adjust to and makes the catch. Anyone with those kind of ball skills and measurables is going to be an asset for someone. Both of those guys are better than Kenny Stills was coming out of college and you say they aren't going to be good. Based off of what? Just because they were good at the 9 route and asked to do it a lot in college doesn't mean that's all they can do.

if we are looking for another slot type WR then id say pull the trigger on Dorsett in the 2nd or 3rd (doubt he will be there then). I really want us to look for a bigger WR to eventually replace Colston.

I would be thrilled if we could stay put and grab Beasley. But most mocks don't have that as a possibility. I'm in the camp of trading up for Williams or Fowler. They're the only 2 safe picks that could really impact our team.
Even if it costs both 1s, we still have an early 2 and two early 3s. Still can grab a MLB and quality WR plus an OL that will either start or provide good depth.
That's the same exact mentality that was employed when Johnathan Sullivan was drafted. He was a "stud" an "immediate starter" and a "difference maker". We pissed away two 1st round picks and a ton of money on a guy who is, in my opinion, the biggest bust in Saints history.
The fact that Loomis was GM and made the trade up for Sullivan leads me to believe he won't be trading two 1st round picks for anyone...fear is a powerful deterrent.

Yea I would be happy with him in the second. I can't see any situation of him lasting till the third. I can see the Saints trading back into the second to take him if he is still there later in the second. He is being compared to a TY Hilton or Antonio Brown. I think he is more than just a slot receiver. Dorsett, cook, and spiller all on the field at the same would be exciting.

Don't want anything to do with DGB.
This. Maturity concerns, limited body of work... doesn't fit the profile of a Saints 1st round pick if history tells us anything.

Which has no bearing in this case. Two different players. Sullivan wasn't even the first DT picked that year. Williams is the clear number 1 on many people's boards and has great character and work ethic.
Every pick is a potential bust...he has a much lower chance.
And I would not feel this way if the draft was deeper. With Ray, Gregory and Collins plummeting I just can't see a "very likely" impact player at a position of real need being there at 13.

I just feel like if they traded known commodities (Graham and Stills)to "fix the defense". But then turn around and use 13&31 to move up for one guy, that the Graham trade was useless.

Don't forget we got Unger to really upgrade our Oline. I think we had two big goals...upgrade the D and take care of Drew.
The Graham trade could do both. I'm watching the Dan Patrick show and every "expert" just raves about Williams. A potential top 5-10 defensive player in the league that can play any position on the Dline effectively.
Turning Graham into Unger and a major part of getting a defensive stud (plus cap room in coming years) is something I'm happy about.
And I feel almost as strongly about Fowler as Williams. This is just the wrong year to have two firsts outside of the top 8. Unless someone like Beasely or Dupree falls I would rather trade down (picking up a first next year and second or third this year) than stay put and pick.
