Let's say he tears shite up the second half of the season. Do we pay him, franchise tag, or let him go? Anyway we could trade him?

I say sign him to a 2-3 year deal and let him be the lead back.

He is not a top 5 back. You definitely do not franchise him.

There is literally a thread talking about exactly this on the first page

We can't trade him. His rookie deal is about to be over. And we can't tag & trade him because....

The franchise tag for RBs last year was 9.5M. It might be a little less this year, but still way above market value. So we will not be tagging him.

I doubt we pay him. His numbers are already pretty ridiculous (YPC wise) and he is getting a lot of pub as a potential top back. He's going to want to get paid. His agent will be pushing for a lot. And it's already public knowledge that they will be testing FA. We are not equipped for a bidding war.

There is very little chance he is on the team next season. We don't have the cap space to pay him what he thinks he deserves. Plus, the fact that he's been terrible before this season but good now tells us that he is not going to be motivated once he gets paid. Also, how many tantrums have we seen him throw over play time? even before this season he was always crying about deserving more play time. Sure, it looks NOW like we should have given him the ball more, but he was borderline terrible before his "break out" game against the Cowboys last season. He's obviously bitter about the way he's been treated here (He's the opposite of Pierre Thomas who relishes the opportunity to be even a small part of the game plan). He will be happy to leave.

We have a more than capable option who is very cheap behind him in Robinson. Or, we could even grab a top-flight back on the 2nd day of the draft seeing as how their draft value has plummeted.

Either way, Ingram's days with this team are numbered. It's unfortunate but that's how the cookie crumbles.

I'd let him walk

Obvious he only tries in contract years

Honestly not impressed by him def liability in pass blocking

Wouldn't give him more than 2 mil a year

I clearly said like three sentences later that he broke out in the Cowboys game last season.. he's been good since then. And he was awful before that for 2 and a half seasons.

I have nothing against the guy, I was just laying out the reasons why he won't be a Saint next year

I notice not many people are pointing at the coach that uses a 4back system instead of a 2back system for Ingram's woes

total stats for 2013 for ingram:

78 attempts
386 yards
4.9 avg
1 TD
7 receptions
68 yards

he looked semi-impressive twice last year. other than that, he has really sucked and last year was the usual for him.

i'll take the whole career and not cherry pick a few games here and there. he's not a top 20 back.

Please tell me you're crying about the play where he took the blitzer out, but since the receivers were covered, the guy was able to get up and still get a sack. You can't block a guy any better than that.

You are definitely in the playoffs for worst poster on this site.

"semi impressive" for the Dallas game and at Philly in the playoffs?

Michael Turner never got to carry the load in San Diego. 502 was his highest total in his first 4 years. He went to Atlanta and ran for 1300+ 3 of the next 4 years and was a top 5 back in the league. Kind of tough to judge a guy when you refuse to feed him the football.
