The new approach to football PLAYERS is welcome. Guys that have high character and have a mean streak.
I'm pretty happy

How can u not. We had a Ditka(shitfest) draft last year

Whoever scouted Tavon Rooks needs to have been fired

It was the worst draft of the Payton era so yeah

I think one of the guys responsible was fired (Reprish).

No great leap of faith on this one! Last year's draft was nothing short of being comical.

No big loss.
But I do think Ireland helped make this draft so defensively successful.

Well aside from Cooks and Sunseri last year's draft was all potential. This year's draft is almost all players(QB, late round corner, and hb being the exception).

our draft last year was Cooks and scratch

Damn! Didn't even notice how bad last year was until I googled it.For the last three years we got nothing out of the 2nd round

False. Cooks, Sunseri, and Powell were all contributors. I'm not going to write off SJB yet as they knew he was a project (not saying I'm hopeful though). Fortt looked promising talent wise but turned out to be a lazy arse. So they did well scouting the talent but not the player in that case.
The only complete whiff was Rooks and how many 6th and 7th round players make the roster?
Give it one more year before judging last years class (it's supposed to be three years but you can usually see where things are heading after two). And anyone writing off Powell and Sunseri are silly. 5th round on you're lucky to have guys be good special teams players and both were. They also managed to work into the defensive rotation a bit.
So no last year wasn't a home run but it wasn't the disaster people make it out to be.

Before this draft 2006/2013 were my favorites. This one blew them out the water. Only thing I didn't like was trading up for Swann, but didn't get mad or nothing about it. I'm hoping between Powell, Sunseri, and Baptiste from last year that at least one of those guys will step up and play big also.

Sunseri looked ok before he got hurt

We are at least batting .500 from last year's draft.
Star in the making WR in the first and two good core special teams players who worked into the defensive rotation in the fifth.
Jury is out on SJB (could be the only true bad pick being a second rounder).
Fortt was a fourth and busted out despite showing talent. Backup OL rarely play special teams so for Rooks it was backup or bust, and he was a sixth rounder.
People overreact to last year's draft because our second rounder was a project and we had no third. It was not nearly as bad as people claim.

Yea, I had high hopes for Fortt, sucks he didn't have his head on straight. It was said all along Baptiste would take a year or 2 to develop, at least we got 1 year out of the way. Sunseri looked great on special teams and decent at S before he got hurt. Anxious to see how Powell develops. Rooks was a dumb pick, probably would have gone undrafted and we grab him in the 6th.

Because tackles are the only measure of contribution.
If that's the case then Lofton is a football god and we all know that ain't true.
On special teams especially it's about good gap control and containment. The tackles come only if a guy goes your way (unless you are a gunner on the punt team then it's your job to make the tackle or force a fair catch).
And Sunseri played some nice coverage in his snaps and Powell had good contain on defense. It was a small sample so it's hard to say but they are on the right track.
And for fricks sake they were fifth rounders. Should every pick be an immediate starter?
